| Position Summary |
This position functions as the Student Services Specialist for multiple educational programs within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, providing comprehensive administrative and programmatic support across both basic science and clinical training programs. The position serves primarily as an educational program administrator for the Pathobiology and Translational Science Ph.D. Graduate Studies Program, working closely with the Director of Graduate Studies, program leadership, and Ph.D. students to ensure compliance with Graduate School policies, training program requirements, and University regulations.
In this role, the position supports academic progression and overall student experience of basic science trainees, with particular attention to students' academic, social, and emotional development. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine supports more than 60 trainees, including approximately 30 enrolled Ph.D. students and additional basic science trainees such as Postdoctoral Fellows. This position uses in-depth knowledge of graduate, undergraduate, and postdoctoral education programs to ensure adherence to
UNC-CH Graduate School and University policies and procedures.
The Department is unique in that it is comprised of both Basic Science and Clinical faculty and trainees and is the only department within the School of Medicine to house both a Ph.D. Graduate Program and an M.D. Residency Program. In addition to graduate education responsibilities, this position may have opportunities to assist with the oversight and coordination of one or more clinical fellowship training programs, supporting recruitment, onboarding of fellows, ongoing program administration, and regulatory compliance. The clinical training programs include approximately 31 clinical trainees (16 Residents and approximately 15 Clinical Fellows), requiring coordinated administrative support across education levels and program types. |
| Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. |
| Management Preferences |
- Thorough knowledge of the applicable Federal, State, University, School, and Department business, personnel, and administrative policies, systems, and procedures.
- Knowledge of the roles different departments within the University with which this position has close contact.
- Broad knowledge of the graduate program, including the application process, registration procedures, student stipends, student health insurance issues, and related deadlines.

| Campus Security Authority Responsibilities |
This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities. |
