POSITION OVERVIEW:
Responsible for recommending preventative measures and providing educational guidance to reduce or eliminate accidents and injuries. Deliver a broad range of services including training, coordination and analysis to ensure compliance with safety laws, regulations and company policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Monitor, educate, and audit employees' safety-related work performance to ensure compliance with safety policies, procedures and safe work practices
  • Collaborate with Operations, Fleet Maintenance and Transportation leadership to ensure compliance with FSMCA regulations as well as accident follow-up as dictated by FXF Safety policy guidelines
  • Evaluate Safety audit procedures, provide improvement plans, program suggestions and implement changes to address/resolve identified trends to improve Safety and ensure OSHA and Regulatory compliance at the district level and company level
  • Collaborate with Safety, Operations, Fleet Maintenance, Legal and Risk Management teams to ensure that all accidents, incidents and injuries are promptly investigated, contributing factors are identified, and action plans are implemented to prevent recurrence
  • Collaborate with Telematics, Operations, Fleet Maintenance, Employee Relations, Risk Management and Safety to work through investigation of accidents, injuries, Hours of Service (HOS), and consultations
  • Inspect service center and fleet maintenance facilities as required per OSHA and company policy
  • Participate actively in Local, State and National organizations and represent the company in a professional manner (TDC, NTDC, NAIC, CVSA)
  • Collaborate with industry counterparts at all levels to ensure that compliance and training programs align with company standards and meet all governing regulatory requirements
  • Collaborate with other departments to develop sustainable plans of communication pertaining to Safety improvement and compliance
  • Identify and analyze potential workplace hazards, develop and implement procedures, and provide recommendations to ensure that effective safety policies and practices are established and maintained
  • Develop, plan, organize and conduct safety meetings with all work groups, and maintain a comprehensive safety resources library and record-keeping system. Support and lead safety awareness campaigns with learning and development throughout the year to promote a strong safety culture and improve overall safety performance.
  • Collaborate with district leadership teams and Fleet Maintenance to monitor Compliance, Safety and Accountability (CSA) scores and address any identified concerns
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws/regulations, as well as company policies/procedures
  • Perform other duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience plus five (5) years' experience in environmental health and safety or related field, and/or experience in LTL industry
  • Experience and understanding of accepted loss prevention/safety and risk management practices
  • Hands-on experience in developing and maintaining safety regulations as outlined by state and federal law for the transportation and trucking industry
  • Expert knowledge of Department of Transportation, OSHA and governmental regulations (federal, state and city) concerning safety/compliance
  • Professional certifications (i.e., N.A.T.M.I., CDS, CSS, or other nationally recognized certifications) preferred
  • Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with double/triple (T) and Hazmat (X) endorsements, preferred
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Strong human relations and communication skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must be able to travel
  • Must be able to work different shifts as required
