Pay Range: $54,000 - $76,000

The ideal candidate has developed specialized skills or is multi-skilled through education, job-related training, and considerable on-the-job experience. Works with a minimal degree of supervision. Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. This is one of the primary technical career stages. A significant portion of the laboratory's daily workload may be completed by individuals with this skill level. Utilizes firm background in equipment, materials, techniques, and business processes to anticipate, identify, and correct or elevate issues as appropriate. Individuals typically spend 7 years or more at this stage but may spend significantly longer depending on individual aptitude or department business needs.

The Advanced Design Prototype Technician provides laboratory services for the support of research, development, design, manufacturing, and marketing activities mainly in a R&D environment with exposure to manufacturing. These support services include the testing of component materials, prototypes, and products; sourcing and procurement of materials, assembly of product prototypes, setup of prototype screening events, and coordination with operations in the setup and staging of verification runs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Complies with all quality, safety, housekeeping, and company policies.
  • Maintains appropriate electronic and hard copy documentation.
  • Sizing of bulk materials to prototype specifications.
  • Operation of manual and automated assembly equipment.
  • Perform testing on components, intermediate, prototypes, and finished products.
  • Result generation, basic statistics, and statistical process control according to project demands.
  • Manages workflow, processes work orders, works with project managers, manufacturing, develop, and design functions to support projects and manage timelines.
  • Schedules and oversees equipment repair and maintenance by outside vendors.
  • Coordinates outside services for component modification.
  • Manages procurement and distribution of materials and protypes to other functions and sites.
  • Oversees temporary staff assigned to the work area.
  • Maintains confidentiality of sensitive and proprietary information.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
Education
  • An Associate Degree in a mechanical, electromechanical or operations engineering discipline is preferred.
  • 3-5 years' experience in an operations environment is required, preferably including product assembly.
  • Hands-on experience in foam lamination and mattress assembly is required. Experience with the use of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook in a laboratory setting is preferred.
  • Must be able to multi-task and complete tasks in an accurate and timely manner as well as be detail oriented.
  • Must be able to communicate across functions and facilitate the coordination of multiple independent timelines and business priorities.
