About the Internship
nLIGHT is currently recruiting for a Process Engineering student to intern with us for the summer of 2026. This internship is a 10 to 12-week program that offers challenging assignments, projects, and career development opportunities to enhance your professional growth. You will also earn a competitive wage based on your discipline and academic class status.
About the Team
The ISR team designs and manufactures pulsed fiber lasers for defense applications. We are a small but growing group of optical, electrical, process, and mechanical engineers working to develop new capabilities in this new product area at nLight.
What You Can Expect to Learn
  • Manufacturing Process Optimization
  • Continuous Improvement and Lean Methodology
  • New Product Introduction (NPI) strategy
  • Test fixture design and qualification
  • Test equipment software design and qualification
What You Can Expect to Do
  • Assist in production and prototype builds of pulsed fiber laser systems
  • Design and qualify new fixtures for PCBA testing alongside mechanical and electrical engineers
  • Create and qualify new software for data collection and analysis alongside systems engineers
  • Design and execute experiments related to process optimization and qualification
Who You Are
  • You have experience with PCBA layout
  • You are a creative problem solver
  • You have experience in test software writing and testing
  • You are well versed in electro-mechanical design
  • You are proficient in technical writing
Minimum Job Requirements
  • You must be working towards an Engineering degree with specializations in Industrial, Mechanical and Electrical preferred.
  • You must have completed (at a minimum) your sophomore year in college.
  • You must have an overall GPA of 3.0 or above to be considered.

Compensation and Benefits
Pay depends on level of education completed:
  • $26 - 28/hr
Benefits
  • Medical, Dental and Vision Benefits including Prescription and Orthodontia with employee-paid premiums as low as $40.00 per pay period
