Conducts experiments in the laboratory and on large-scale foam machines in support of FFRM Research projects in support of Applications Development, PET/PMPO Manufacturing Quality/troubleshooting and Innovation for slabstock and molded foam markets. Develops and conducts specialized foam tests and maintains equipment. Develops, manipulates and documents data electronically gathered from experiments. Assigned work in foams and polyols can encompass either polyether polyols and/or PMPO's as well as isocyanates, catalysts, surfactants and additives.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Works with some supervision using standard procedures/instructions on defined problems to make urethane slabstock and molded foams for project, product and quality support.
  • Solid knowledge of the practical application and/or usage of standard methods, techniques and/or equipment.
  • Performs maintenance on equipment and/or instruments sometimes covered by standard procedures and at times with independent troubleshooting.
  • Suggests ideas to solve problems and improve established procedures.
  • Communicates with internal stakeholders to obtain information necessary to perform tasks/job, exchange information or observations, and to make suggestions
  • Follows practices to obtain consistency of results; ability to follow standard procedures to generate consistent data, run standards or machine checks, perform material balances.
  • Applies basic math and statistical analysis; proficient with operation of instrument/equipment using menu-driven software.
  • Emphasizes safety and good housekeeping in laboratory to ensure all safety protocol is followed as well as participates in proactive safety activities

Basic Qualifications

  • High School diploma with 2+ years of experience; OR High School diploma with formal degree/training in the science field
  • Must be able to lift 5-gallon cans and move 55-gallon drums

Knowledge and Skills

  • Ability to test and report physical test results
  • Supports large PM FFRM automotive and slabstock customers with data generated
  • Contributes ideas to improve work equipment processes
  • Ability to be in office/lab 5 days a week
  • Proficiency in the use of a broader range of methods, techniques and or equipment (consider complexity)
  • Minimal travel may be required
