Lead Structural Inspector

Building on our past. Ready for the future.
Worley is a global professional services company of energy, chemicals and resources experts. We partner with customers to deliver projects and create value over the life of their assets. We're bridging two worlds, moving towards more sustainable energy sources, while helping to provide the energy, chemicals and resources needed now.

Play an integral role in ensuring the integrity, safety, and compliance of structural systems across complex energy, chemicals, and resources projects. As a Lead Structural Inspector, you operate at the intersection of engineering intent and field execution-bringing technical rigor, practical judgment, and leadership to every inspection activity. You are trusted to assess structural work with a critical eye, ensuring alignment with design specifications, regulatory requirements, and project objectives.

Purpose of the role

You will be responsible for leading and executing advanced structural inspection activities on projects of significant scale and complexity. This role exists to safeguard quality and compliance while enabling efficient project delivery. You apply independent judgment, technical expertise, and a strong understanding of structural systems to evaluate construction activities, identify risks, and recommend solutions that align with project and organizational goals.

Core Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for performing complex structural inspections across multiple disciplines, ensuring compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and applicable codes and standards
  • Provide technical leadership in the field, guiding inspection teams and supporting less experienced inspectors with methods, interpretation, and best practices
  • Evaluate structural components including steel, concrete, foundations, and related systems for quality, safety, and constructability
  • Interpret design documentation and identify discrepancies, risks, or opportunities for improvement, escalating issues as needed
  • Exercise independent judgment in planning, organizing, and executing inspection activities within established project frameworks
  • Collaborate with engineering, construction, and client teams to resolve technical issues and maintain alignment with project requirements
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of inspection processes, systems, and tools
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports, documentation, and recommendations with clarity and technical accuracy
  • Support project and departmental administrative responsibilities, including reporting, scheduling input, and compliance tracking
  • Act as a subject matter expert on complex or sensitive structural issues, influencing decisions through technical credibility and clear communication

What you'll bring to the role

  • A technical school diploma or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, with typically 7+ years of structural inspection or related field experience
  • Strong working knowledge of structural systems, including steel fabrication and erection, reinforced concrete, and foundation systems
  • Proven ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and relevant codes (e.g., AISC, ACI, ASTM, or project-specific standards)
  • Demonstrated experience exercising independent judgment in complex field environments with minimal supervision
  • Ability to analyze technical data, identify trends, and assess feasibility in alignment with client and contractual requirements
  • Experience leading small teams or providing technical direction to inspectors or field personnel
  • Advanced understanding of inspection systems, processes, and tools, with the ability to troubleshoot and improve workflows
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and inform stakeholders on complex technical matters
  • High level of attention to detail, accountability, and commitment to safety and quality standards
  • Practical, solution-oriented mindset with the ability to balance technical rigor and project realities
