Under the direction of the Senior Director of Technology and Cybersecurity for Administrative Innovation and Technology (AdminIT), the Infrastructure Services Manager is a hands-on technical leader responsible for planning, architecture, deployment, documentation, and operational support of enterprise infrastructure services across the campus.

The position provides technical leadership and day-to-day supervision for Systems Administrators who support mission-critical servers, virtualization platforms, storage, networking, cloud services, identity platforms, and related security controls in alignment with IS-3/12 requirements. The manager performs advanced configuration, troubleshooting, and implementation while establishing standards, security practices, operational runbooks, and documentation to ensure secure, reliable, and scalable systems.

The role promotes automation, DevOps practices, knowledge sharing, and cross-training to reduce silos and improve resiliency, and collaborates with the Senior Director and campus stakeholders on technology roadmaps, infrastructure modernization, and budget planning to support scalable enterprise systems and other infrastructure platforms.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Experience working with and analyzing complex databases and systems at a large scale including solid knowledge of Enterprise Architectural principles, theories, concepts, and infrastructure design methodologies.
  • At least 2 years of experience leading a work team including organizing workflow to accomplish established objectives, training, coaching and the ability to delegate responsibility. Including a demonstrated understanding of the philosophy of quality service with proven aptitude for working as part of a team.
  • Experience in exercising discretion and judgment, and maintaining the security of confidential and sensitive information and materials. Personal integrity sufficient to maintain the security of university funds.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure technologies, architecture principles, design, and theories, including virtualization platforms, operating systems, and the ability to identify operational risks, proactively addressing infrastructure challenges.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills to manage multiple infrastructure initiatives, formulate road maps, prioritize projects and workflow while using independent judgment to make decisions regarding day-to-day operations.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to interact diplomatically and effectively with diverse groups of people and situations, and to explain complex policies and procedures to both management as well as technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Hyper-V virtualization, Enterprise Infrastructure Systems, implementing infrastructure automation, DevOps code.
  • Experience operating infrastructure in large enterprises, higher education, or complex institutional environments.
  • Professional certifications related to infrastructure architecture, cloud platforms, or enterprise IT operations.
  • Skills to synthesize information and situations to define the problem and/or objective, identify issues, and formulate logical conclusions.
  • Ability to interactively participate on committees and in meetings representing the business intelligence unit.
  • A profound belief in the value of a safe workforce and a commitment to achieve this goal through collaboration and team building, working cooperatively with a large group of department and campus constituencies.
  • Awareness, knowledge, and skill in applying inclusion to one's work.

Department Overview

Administrative Innovation and Technology is part of Finance, Operations, and Administration with a large and diverse portfolio of services essential to the health, safety, compliance, and oversight of the entire UC Davis campus. This position is one of two senior-level Systems Administrators for FOA, and consults and/or implements solutions for projects/initiatives. This includes the managed infrastructure for over 1,500 workstations, both MAC and PC, currently running a diverse set of software applications (over 190 unique applications/versions and 61 commodity applications/services), as well as infrastructure and protocols. Additionally, this position manages aspects of a physical, cloud, and virtual server farm of more than 300 servers. This position serves as the Application Administrator for a subset of mission-critical systems and provides broad consultation, sharing knowledge, experience, and expertise.

Work Environment
