Description:

Position Summary

This position will perform intake assessments, primary care, consultation, and education for a broad range of patients accessing both medical and addiction services. Responsible for diagnosing, ordering, and delivering therapeutic treatments to patients. Responsible for day-to-day operations of the addiction medicine program at MSHC and collaborating with the Chief of Integrated Behavioral Health and Addiction on program development, grant funding opportunities, research, and student/resident/fellow education. The position is 50% FTE.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and diagnose substance use disorders based on DSM 5 criteria and provide evidence-based treatment modalities such a medication assisted recovery with methadone or buprenorphine for opioid use disorder.
  • Obtain patient history, medication reconciliation, and perform physical exams.
  • Optimize physical health of patients by screening for health conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, perform preventative cancer screenings, vaccinations, contraceptive counseling, testing and treatment for infectious diseases such as HCV, HIV, TB, and sexually transmitted infections.
  • Update policies, guidelines and procedures related to administering addiction treatment.
  • Assist with onboarding and training new addiction treatment providers, addiction fellows, and assist with organizing addiction focused rotations for medical students and residents.
  • Precept residents, medical students and fellows in family medicine and/or addiction medicine.
  • Collaborate on research related to the clinic population and explore novel treatment approaches.
  • Develop community relationships and referral systems to promote SUD treatment in vulnerable populations.
  • Maintain compliance with partner documentation, policies, procedures, and treatment requirements such as Family Guidance Counseling Centers.
  • Design individualized care plans in collaboration with the Mile Square Health Center behavioral health integration team.
  • Prescribe, direct, and administer therapeutic treatments or medications for substance use disorders and concomitant medical conditions.
  • Collaborate with physicians, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, nurses, care coordinators and other professionals associated with the behavioral health integration team to discuss treatment plans and progress.
  • Prepare and submit case reports and summaries to government agencies, collaborate in writing grants to support SUD treatment within the agency.
  • Advise and inform guardians, relatives, schools, agencies and significant others of patients' conditions and treatment when necessary.
  • Review, evaluate and consult with other addiction/mental health providers and medical professionals regarding their treatment procedures and outcomes.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications

  • Family Medicine MD/DO with Board Certification in Addiction Medicine
  • At least 2 years of experience in education leadership - residency or fellowship training program
  • At least 3 years of integrated addiction, behavioral health, and primary care experience
  • Current Valid American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification.
