The Opportunity:

The Housekeeping Department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire a Custodial Specialist III. This position serves as a lead-level custodial specialist, providing advanced custodial services while supporting daily operations, workflow coordination, and quality assurance across assigned areas. The role works closely with team members to ensure established standards for cleanliness, sanitation, safety, and overall facility appearance are consistently met.

The Custodial Specialist III provides guidance, training, and operational support to staff, assists with prioritizing work, and helps address service needs and operational challenges. This position requires advanced custodial knowledge and skills, including but not limited to hard floor care, carpet care, and sanitation practices. The role also includes responding to customer requests, assisting with problem resolution, and ensuring work is completed efficiently and to quality standards.

Responsibilities:



  • Provide day-to-day guidance and support to Custodial Specialist I & II staff in assigned areas.

  • Assist with coordinating daily work assignments to ensure timely and efficient completion of tasks.

  • Monitor completed work and provide feedback to maintain Quality Assurance standards.

  • Serve as a point of contact for team members to address questions, issues, and service needs.

  • Support onboarding and train staff on custodial procedures, equipment, safety practices, and customer service expectations.

  • Assist with prioritizing and adjusting workflows based on operational needs and urgent requests.

  • Perform advanced custodial duties, including: cleaning and stocking restrooms and common areas, vacuuming carpets and moving furniture, sweeping, mopping, and maintaining floors and entryways, removing trash and recycling, dusting, sanitizing, and cleaning surfaces and equipment, cleaning windows, glass, and doors, shampooing carpets and upholstery, refinishing floors (stripping, waxing, buffing).

  • Conduct and document cleanliness inspections and audits, identifying areas for improvement.

  • Assist with inventory monitoring and communicate supply needs.

  • Support work order management by reviewing, updating, and ensuring timely completion in IWMS.

  • Coordinate with staff, customers, and other stakeholders to support efficient service delivery.

  • Respond to urgent or life-safety requests in a timely manner.

  • Maintain accurate records related to work activities, materials, and timelines.

  • Promote a positive team environment by encouraging collaboration and accountability.

  • Ensure adherence to safety standards, policies, and regulatory guidelines.

  • Attend meetings and perform additional duties as assigned.




Minimum Qualifications:

Completion of 9th grade and 4+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • At least one year of lead, team support, or informal leadership experience in a custodial or similar environment.

  • 3+ years' experience in a custodial, janitorial, or similar type of physical role.

  • Ability to guide, train, and support team members in daily work activities and procedures.

  • Previous experience with organizing resources and ensuring that work productivity and service meet UCF quality assurance standards.

  • Experience in a customer focused role where professionalism is needed along with the ability to maintain confidentiality and address sensitive matters appropriately and efficiently.

  • Capable of communicating in conversational English in order to work effectively with customers and team members, operate and interpret the functions of the electronic equipment (iPad for IWMS PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures, and utilize telecommunication devices.

  • Experience using tools required for the task (mop/mop bucket, dust mop, broom, scrub pad, radio, etc.) and small and/or large floor equipment for carpet and hard floor care.

  • Knowledge of safety for EH&S approved chemicals for daily cleaning of restrooms, floors, and surfaces and be able to use approved chemicals.

  • Able to comprehend and support all applicable Federal, State, and local safety rules and regulations, including OSHA, Dept. of Health, and the Bureau of Fire Safety.

  • Capable of understanding, communicating, applying, and enforcing UCF guidelines, regulations, and policies as well as comprehending reports, inspections, and documentation pertinent to the unit.

  • Ability to interpret, follow, and/or provide clear instructions by promoting teamwork, accountability, and consistency in a diverse work environment.

  • Flexible and adaptable to support urgent operational needs.




Health Assessment Required:

UCF policy requires completion and passing of a physical exam for this position.

Special Instructions to the Applicants:

New hires selected for this position at the University of Central Florida can expect to be offered the base salary amount for the role. Compensation is determined in alignment with UCF's pay structure and internal equity considerations.

Position requires a valid Class E driver's license. The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

May be required to participate in respiratory, medical examination and training in use of respirators.
