Job Purpose

The DSO Distribution Security Operator will supervise and monitor the electric distribution system as a critical player within the new Distribution System Operator (DSO) model to deliver on the company's Electric Sector Modernization Plan (ESMP) goals for a clean energy future. Distributed Energy Resource (DER) operations and their ability to be leveraged to relieve grid constraints will be a primary component of the position.

Key Accountabilities

Accountable for the safe, secure, reliable, and efficient operation of National Grid's New England Distribution system, to include:

* Provide day-ahead/real-time analysis and develop/implement action plans to mitigate developing system issues

* Dispatch DERs/Non-Wire Alternatives (NWAs)/Virtual Power Plants (VPPs) to provide load balancing and maintain the system within operating limits.

* Coordinate planned, forced, and emergency outages with applicable entities.

* Perform Load Flow & Contingency Analysis using applications such as the Advanced Distribution Management System (ADMS) and Distribution Energy Resource Management System (DERMS).

* Ensure distribution system equipment operates within established ratings.

* Evaluate and assess activation of automated systems.

* Monitor the health and accuracy of the Distribution Management System (DMS), Predictive Operations Tools, and other applicable DSO systems, reporting anomalies to responsible individuals.

* Obtain and maintain any required certifications.

* Maintain close and effective working relationships with DSO, Control Room, Engineering, and Customer groups.

Qualifications
* Bachelors degree in STEM required
* Candidates must successfully pass a pre-employment aptitude test
* Must be available to work a shift schedule.
* Ability to work Overtime in support of company and customer needs.

Candidates will be assessed and provided offers against the minimum qualifications of this role and their individual experience. As a Security Operator, you will be required to successfully pass the Electric Distribution Control Center Training Program, including the assessments and/or tests that are administered. Please be advised that unsuccessful completion or failure of the required training program including the tests may lead to disqualification and separation.

The Security Operator is a job family with expected progression through Operator, Senior, and Lead. Once hired, new Security Operators will receive comprehensive classroom and on the job training to prepare for this role.
