What to Expect
The Cell Technology Team is looking for a passionate, hands-on Anode Materials Engineer to pioneer the next generation of anode materials that will power Tesla's future vehicles and energy products. You'll be at the forefront of active materials innovation, driving the development, testing, and validation of high-performance anode materials from lab-scale discovery to pilot-line integration. The candidate will be responsible for hands-on experimentation in material synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical evaluation of anode active battery materials. This role demands a proactive, detail-oriented engineer who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment, where innovation is built through experimentation, data, and collaboration.
What You'll Do
- Design and execute hands-on experiments in materials synthesis, characterization, slurry formulation, and electrode processing
- Perform comprehensive materials characterization using advanced tools such as SEM, XRD, BET, TGA, and PSA to establish structure-property-processing correlations
- Develop and refine materials synthesis and evaluation protocols to enable rapid iteration and continuous improvement
- Conduct comprehensive data analysis of failure modes and degradation mechanisms, driving data-informed enhancements to material design and process robustness
- Collaborate closely with engineers and technicians to ensure seamless material development, evaluation, and scale up
- Document process parameters and results thoroughly in trackers and test reports and communicate key findings clearly to cross-functional teams
- Stay current with scientific literature to deepen fundamental understanding and propose innovative experimental design to address technical challenges
- Maintain clean, safe, and organized lab environments to support reproducibility and operational excellence
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of hands-on experience in anode material development, preferably with silicon, graphite, or carbon-based materials
- Proven experience in materials synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical testing of battery materials
- Proficiency with materials characterization tools (SEM, TGA, PSA, etc.)
- Strong communication and organization skills with ability to manage projects independently
- Self-starter with a proactive attitude, curiosity, and drive to innovate
- Strong programming skills (Python, MATLAB, or similar) for processing and analyzing battery test data is a plus
