Job Summary
The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading maintenance operations within an industrial manufacturing environment. This role oversees hourly maintenance employees and contractors, ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable maintenance activities. Key responsibilities include promoting a strong safety culture, planning and scheduling maintenance work, managing costs, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to achieve equipment reliability and operational goals.
Job Responsibilities



  • Lead and supervise maintenance team members and contractors, ensuring accountability and adherence to safety standards
  • Plan and schedule maintenance activities, including job walk-downs, scope development, safety evaluations, and parts procurement
  • Manage maintenance work orders through submission, scheduling, execution, and financial close using CMMS (SAP)
  • Oversee day-to-day maintenance operations, planned outages, and major shutdowns
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, including hazardous waste management
  • Support ISO 9001, ISO 14001, FSSC 22000, and HACCP programs to maintain quality and food safety standards
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and provide technical input for commissioning and decommissioning of process automation
  • Monitor and improve maintenance KPIs such as wrench time, downtime, and scheduled vs. unscheduled maintenance
  • Identify and implement reliability improvements and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Serve as backup to the Maintenance Manager and participate in on-call rotation for emergency response


Job Requirements



  • High school diploma required; technical training in an industrial manufacturing environment preferred (Millwright or Electrical/Instrumentation)
  • Minimum 5 years of industrial experience in a chemical plant or related manufacturing environment
  • Minimum 3 years of maintenance supervisory experience; union environment experience is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of industrial equipment, including pumps, piping, heat exchangers, vessels, and instrumentation
  • Ability to lead teams, enforce safety standards, and manage contractors effectively
  • Proficiency in planning, scheduling, and cost control of maintenance activities
  • Hands-on troubleshooting skills for mechanical and electrical process equipment
  • Familiarity with maintenance documentation such as P&IDs, loop sheets, wiring diagrams, and equipment lists
  • Understanding of maintenance KPIs and strategies for improvement


Education



  • High school diploma required
  • Technical training in Millwright or Electrical/Instrumentation preferred


Work Experience



  • 5+ years of industrial experience in a chemical or manufacturing environment
  • 3+ years in a maintenance supervisory role


Additional Job Details



  • Frequent exposure to an industrial manufacturing environment
  • Ability to walk plant areas, climb stairs, and perform job walk-downs
  • Visual acuity required for equipment inspections and documentation review
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of light materials (up to 10 lbs)
