Job Summary The Structured Cabling Technician II installs, terminates, and maintains copper and fiber structured cabling systems in data center and large-scale commercial environments. This role supports the installation of cable pathways, racks, cabinets, and network infrastructure while ensuring all work meets project specifications, industry standards, and safety requirements. The technician works closely with project leads and team members to complete installations on schedule while maintaining organized cable management and documentation. This contract-to-hire opportunity offers ongoing training and advancement within the telecom and low-voltage industry. Job Responsibilities
Install, route, and secure copper and fiber cabling in data center and commercial environments
Terminate copper cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A) and fiber connections including LC and SC
Pull, route, label, and dress cables while maintaining proper bend radius and pathway support
Install cable pathways including ladder racks, basket trays, cable trays, J-hooks, and D-rings
Build and organize racks, cabinets, and structured cabling infrastructure
Install and support patch panels, network equipment, and wireless access points
Perform cable management including bundling, dressing, and labeling
Label, test, and certify cabling using industry-standard testing equipment
Read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and cable routing diagrams
Maintain clean and organized work areas in high-security data center environments
Communicate project progress, issues, and material needs to supervisors or project leads
Document completed work, cable counts, and installation progress
Assist team leads with project execution and support less experienced installers when needed
Job Requirements
High school diploma or GED required
Minimum of 2 years of experience in structured cabling, low-voltage installation, or telecommunications infrastructure
Experience installing and terminating both fiber and copper cabling systems
Ability to terminate LC or SC fiber connections and RJ45 copper terminations
Experience installing racks, cabinets, cable trays, ladder racks, and cable pathways
Familiarity with TIA/EIA structured cabling standards
Ability to perform cable testing using certification or diagnostic tools
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, floor plans, and technical diagrams
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
Ability to follow safety procedures and site security protocols
Education
Work Experience
At least 2 years of experience working in structured cabling, telecommunications, or low-voltage installations
Experience working in data centers or large commercial construction environments preferred
