What to Expect
Tesla is seeking a skilledMechanicalDesignLaunch Engineer to join our Energy Products team, focusing on the Megapackthermal system.With a strong background in mechanical design, you will collaborate cross-functionally todeliver and scale our products.This role will bridgethegap between design, manufacturing, and deployment, collaborating withpartnerteams to launch our thermal systems with an emphasis on quality, reliability, and scalability.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, manufacturing,production,supply chain, among others) to drive the successful launch ofindustrial product thermal systems
- Componentmechanical design ownership to resolve production issues, improve product field quality, and drive continuous product improvements to enhancethermalperformanceandreduce costs
- Develop andoptimizeindustrial processes for high-volume production, focusing on efficiency, quality, and scalability
- Identifyand resolve production bottlenecks during the launch phase by implementingassembly,process improvements
- Create andmaintaindocumentation, including process workflows, SOPs,assembly drawings,and launch checklists
- Work closely with suppliers to ensurecomponentreadiness and alignment with production timelines
- Troubleshootmechanicaldesignissues during prototyping, manufacturing, and field deployment
- Work with manufacturing, process,quality,NPI,and supply chainteamsin the early development phaseto ensure designs are scalable and cost-effective for mass production(DFM)
- Support cross-functional teams in meeting aggressive project timelines and performance goals
- Travel to support production launch and ramp (supplier visits, on-site at Tesla factories, etc.)
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience
- 3+ years of experience in mechanical design, ideally in energy storage, HVAC, or related industries
- Proficiencyin CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA)and data analysis tools (Matlab, Excel, or similar)
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, assembly line setup, production scaling, and design for manufacturability (DFM)
- Experience with product launch cycles and cross-functional collaboration
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to evolving project needs
- Experience withmanufacturing processes such as sheet metal, casting, injection molding, and extrusions (or similar)
- Experience with electromechanical components such as motors, sensors,harnesses, and PCBAs
- Familiarity with regulatory standards for thermal and energy systems
- Passion for sustainable energy and Tesla's mission to accelerate the world's transitionto amazingabundance
