What to Expect
Join Tesla's innovative Supply Chain Team as a Supplier Performance Engineer and play a pivotal role in
revolutionizing high-volume manufacturing for our groundbreaking vehicles and energy products.
We're seeking a highly talented, resourceful leader with a passion for solving complex challenges. In this
dynamic position, you'll tackle high-impact production and quality constraints across our global supply
base, drive cost optimizations, and systematically enhance launch capabilities for new programs.
Success demands a deep understanding of diverse manufacturing processes and the agility to rapidly
master new product specifications. You'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including
experts from Supply Chain, Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Planning, as well as suppliers
worldwide. Beyond technical prowess, this role thrives on forging strong relationships, navigating
ambiguity with clarity, and leveraging exceptional interpersonal skills to lead high-stakes projects under
pressure. With hands-on involvement in cutting-edge vehicle and energy initiatives, you'll gain intimate
knowledge of design intent and partner with suppliers to deliver processes that exceed quality, cost, and
production standards-directly fueling Tesla's mission to build a world of amazing abundance. This position is open to candidates based in either our Austin, Sparks, or Fremont office.
What You'll Do
- Spearhead rapid root-cause investigations at underperforming suppliers; deploy immediate short-term
actions to safeguard Tesla's production continuity, followed by robust permanent countermeasures. Apply problem solving methodologies like Red X to identify and resolve part or process related root causes that limit throughput or part feature capability. These investigations will take place at Tesla facilities, supplier facilities or both - Analyze new component designs and technical specifications to assess their effects on critical product
outcomes; collaborate with Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain teams, and suppliers to refine and optimize these specifications for superior performance - Work with Tesla facilities to resolve throughput and quality issues attributed to supplier parts or
processes. Reduce scrap and returns of non-confirming product impacting Tesla facilities across automotive, energy, and charging product platforms - Facilitate Process Failure Mode & Effect Analysis (PFMEA) sessions with suppliers, Engineering, and
Global Supply Managers to validate process plans that consistently meet stringent quality, cost, and delivery targets - Evaluate Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements, ensuring part-level gauges
and assembly equipment employ precise, consistent datum strategies to minimize errors and enhance reliability - Champion cost-reduction initiatives by refining product specifications, streamlining production
workflows, and minimizing scrap-unlocking efficiencies that scale across our operations - Cultivate enduring supplier partnerships through a collaborative, trust-based approach that fosters
innovation and mutual success
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Manufacturing Engineering, or equivalent experience or evidence of exceptional ability
- 8+ years in high-volume manufacturing within Manufacturing, Design, or Quality roles, with a track
record of delivering results in fast-paced environments - Shainin Red X Journeyman Certification (Master Certification strongly preferred)
- Comprehensive expertise in GD&T and the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP)
- Highly effective communicator both written and spoken. Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams to resolve intricate, high-stakes problems
