POSITION SUMMARY

The Dye Operator is responsible for operating machinery and performing production tasks within the Dye House, including dyeing, blending, and preparing wool, yarn, and fabric. This role includes weighing, blending, and preparing raw materials to support production. The Dye Operator ensures product quality, maintains safety standards, and supports efficient mill operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB

  • Operate dye machines, dryers, presses, pneumatic conveyor systems, and related equipment
  • Weigh, measure, and blend wool, dyes, and chemicals according to production specifications
  • Load and unload wool, yarn, and fabric into and from machines
  • Move materials including wool bales, yarn, fabric, and chemicals using carts, forklifts, or other equipment
  • Prepare and stage raw materials, including retrieving and opening wool bales
  • Operate blending systems, including pneumatic conveyor and Auto-Mist systems
  • Prepare and manage water, oil, and chemical mixtures used in production
  • Operate balers and manage waste material as needed
  • Monitor inventory levels of raw stock, dyes, and processing supplies
  • Inspect materials and finished product to ensure quality and specification compliance
  • Sew fabric and prepare materials as required for processing
  • Clean machines, systems, and work areas to maintain safe and efficient operations
  • Follow all safety rules, policies, and procedures at all times
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of operations

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Manufacturing or related experience
  • Basic mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and other equipment
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
  • Frequent pushing, pulling, and handling of materials
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds; heavier loads with assistance or equipment
  • Ability to move wheeled carts and materials weighing up to 200 pounds
  • Ability to safely handle wool bales and operate material handling equipment
  • Ability to bend, twist, crouch, and climb ladders as needed
  • Exposure to a manufacturing environment with noise, dust, and chemicals.
  • Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hearing protection, safety glasses, gloves, aprons, and safety footwear


2nd shift 3:00 pm - 11:30 pm Monday-Friday
Wages and annual increases are provided in accordance with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. Shift differential for 2nd and 3rd shifts. Eligible employees receive nine (9) paid holidays, medical, dental, prescription drug coverage, short-term disability benefits, vision care reimbursement, shoe reimbursement, and a 401(k) retirement plan with Company matching contributions up to $750 annually, plus an annual employer fixed contribution of $1,300. Employees also begin accruing sick leave and vacation time starting on their first day of employment.
