Powertrain Engineering is seeking a talented and highly motivated individual to fulfill the role of OBD (On Board Diagnostics) Calibration Manager. The OBD Calibration Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing calibration staff; ensuring the planning, development, and timely release of diagnostic calibrations in alignment with program milestones. Additionally, provide escalation guidance, overseeing the identification and resolution of issues promptly. Review and approve team plans, ensuring the on-time delivery of deliverables that meet safety, regulatory, service, quality, and project escalation requirements. Furthermore, manage personnel effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team environment to achieve project goals. Responsibilities:
- Oversee the design, development, calibration, and validation of diagnostic and safety calibration efforts to meet objectives and needs.
- Manage workload distribution among teams to optimize staffing and assign development deliverables clearly.
- Ensure timely escalation of PCAL needs, late deliverables, safety concerns, deficiencies, and issues through relevant management chains (propulsion, vehicle and TSRC).
- Provide oversight for status presentations at director/VP reviews, Quality Gates, and PSDP milestone reviews.
- Track and expedite the resolution of high-impact development and in-field issues (GIMs) with cross-functional support for PCAL CDS teams.
- Provide technical oversight and approval for late/Post-X2 calibration, focusing on necessary and validated changes, as well as identifying needed lesson learned enhancements.
- Align teams with PCAL methodologies and steering committee efforts to identify process efficiency & quality improvements.
- Oversee collective team vehicle and equipment usage, extensions, and turn-ins.
- Assess overtime and travel needs, contributing to propulsion level request systems.
- Review and approve running change and field fix statements from development teams for accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure that goals, aspirations, and development efforts are defined and discussed for both direct and indirect reports through GHRC process.
- Collaborate with PRS HR on staff-related topics for both direct and indirect reports.
- Provide oversight of talent acquisition and management, as well as supplier statements of work and contract placement.
- Conduct group meetings, 1-1s with reports, and organize full staff meetings, surveys, and wellness outings.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics from an accredited university
- Minimum of 10 years combined work experience in the area of powertrain development and/or calibration
- Minimum of 3 years of prior experience leading a team
- Knowledge of electrified powertrain fundamentals
- Experience with OBD diagnostic calibration and global OBD regulations
- Knowledge of standard and regulatory test procedures
- Experience managing complex engineering projects from concept to launch on defined timelines
- Working knowledge of conventional and electrified propulsion system functionality, embedded controls software and calibration tools
- Strong understanding of combustion and emissions fundamentals
- Ability to balance work on many projects simultaneously
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
- Outstanding problem solving and analytical skills
- Strong data acquisition experience collecting and processing data
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- 5+ years of prior experience leading a team
- Experience with Design for Six Sigma (DFS) proactive engineering methods
- Experience in Powertrain Control solution development (powertrain control algorithms, On-board Diagnostics/ OBD, embedded software)
- Experience in engine/e-motor/inverter/battery/transmission component or system design and development
- Strong knowledge of the propulsion system (hardware, calibration, controls)
- System development experience in airflow, combustion, thermodynamics, or after treatment areas
- Calibration process knowledge using design of experiments and advanced optimization techniques
- Proficient in Matlab / Simulink and propulsion system control theory
