MISSION

Performs light electrical and mechanical assembly of scientific laboratory equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reads and follows written instruction on proper assembly of sub-assemblies and final product
  • Uses wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and both mechanical and wiring samples as part of assembly instruction documentation
  • Uses small hand tools to perform light mechanical assembly
  • Operates electrical and pneumatic hand tools
  • Verifies and documents conformance to specification of assemblies and final products
  • Performs some minor testing of sub-assemblies per assembly procedure
  • Confers with engineers and supervisory personnel to resolve assembly problems
  • Uses soldering irons and small hand tools for making electrical connections
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

  • High school degree or equivalent

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 2 years of experience in electrical mechanical assembly

SKILLS OR KNOWLEDGE

  • Familiarity with identification of electronic components, wire, and hardware
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical/electronic drawings, assembly drawings, and Bills of Materials
  • Proficiency in electro-mechanical assembly, including wire stripping, crimping, soldering, plumbing, sheet metal, and machine part assembly
  • Self-inspects work throughout the assembly process and escalates any issues or concerns
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Familiar with safety and ESD requirements
  • Familiar with ISO 9001 procedures and work instructions
  • Customer focused and meets all quality, quantity, and established manufacturing practices to satisfy customer requirements
  • Previous experience working with small, precision, mechanical or optical assemblies.
  • Proficient with basic computer operation. Prefer experience with Microsoft Office computer applications

PHYSICAL ABILITY

  • Ability to distinguish colors
  • Good manual dexterity for handling and assembling small parts
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.

  • Ability to acquire new skills and to accommodate change in the workplace

ADDITIONAL SKILLS/EXPERIENCE DESIRED

  • Experience in a LEAN Manufacturing or other continuous improvement environment
