Position Summary

The Sports & Fitness Program Manager is responsible for developing, organizing, delivering and administering sports leagues, recreation programs and activities targeted toward youth and adults. This position is responsible for recruiting and engaging staff and volunteers as well as supervising and developing their team. This position is also responsible for acting as a Manager on Duty in the Gymnasium, fulfilling closing shifts, and overseeing Sports, Recreation, Fitness and Athletics-based programs and functions as assigned.

Essential Functions



  • To know, explain and exemplify the mission, purpose, and values of the Kroc Center and The Salvation Army.
  • Serve as a member of the center management team performing specific duties which support the overall success of the center, including, but not limited to member/ customer support and building management, and handling and communication of incidents.
  • Develop, organize, deliver and administer sports leagues, tournaments, recreation programs, roster and drop-in activities for The Salvation Army Kroc Center. (Including, but not limited to, basketball, soccer, volleyball, flag football, climbing tower, Tiny Tikes, Group Exercise and pickleball; as well as potential new programs based on demand and industry trends).
  • Plan, organize, schedule, and direct all games, facilities, officials, and scorekeepers for The Salvation Army Kroc Center sports and activities.
  • Actively research new sports programs and activities targeted toward youth and adults.
  • Recruit, hire on-board, train, develop and supervise sport team members.
  • Ensure a high level of customer service for all program participants.
  • Prepare and manage the program budget to ensure revenue and program service goals are achieved.
  • Coordinating all practice plans, supervising coaches, creating league schedules, processing registrations, communicating with customers, and cultivating relationships with local schools.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate program staff and volunteers.
  • Oversee point of sale operations, cash handling, and CCMS database management for all Sports & Recreation-based programs.
  • Work cooperatively with all program Directors, supervisors, and staff to optimize the integration and cross-marketing of Sports & Fitness programs throughout the Kroc Center.
  • Follow and ensure adherence to The Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Perform other assignments/duties as directed.


Working Conditions

Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Perform all physical aspects of the position, including being mobile, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds at a time. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. May be exposed to verbal outbursts, physical actions or bodily fluids as part of the environment. Work environments range from quiet work areas to busy, noisy indoor and outdoor spaces with several groups talking amongst themselves concurrently. Must be able to actively participate in youth games/activities.

PAY RATE: $33.80-$34.00/hr.

Minimum Qualifications



  • Minimum High School graduate or equivalent. College degree preferred.
  • (Preferred) Degree in Recreation, Management, Physical Education or related field.
  • Must have at least two (2) years of experience working with children preferably in a Sports, Recreation, or Camp-based environment.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience developing, implementing, scheduling and evaluating varied sports recreation programs.
  • (Preferred) minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.
  • Basic skills in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • CPR/PR, First Aid, AED, and Oxygen certifications (within 30 days of hire).
  • Ability to manage programs to a diverse population.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a large variety of sports recreation program activities.
  • Knowledge of rules in sports recreation program activities.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Creative thinker with a history of applying innovation in programming.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and the ability to build community relationships.
  • Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English. Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
