Position Title: Cook, Full Time
Corps/Department: Salvation Army, Clitheroe Center
Reports To: Resident Manager
FLSA Status: Full-Time / 40 hours per week; Non-Exempt

Education and Work Experience:
* High school diploma or equivalency.
* Two (2) years' experience as a cook, one of which must have been in an institutional setting.
* Must possess or obtain a Food Handlers Card within 30 days of hire and be Serv-Safe certified.

Scope of Position/Essential Functions:
Under general supervision of the Resident Manager, the Cook enhances client recovery by providing well-balanced and attractive meal service for a 42-bed residential facility consisting of clients, guests, and staff by addressing special diets and keeping costs in line with budget.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
* Understanding of trauma-informed care.
* Ability to maintain a collaborative and cooperative work environment and to work with a minimum of supervision.
* Must be skilled in communication with individuals of varying ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
* Highly organized, detail oriented, and demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with peers, supervisors, clients, families, and visitors.
* Have the ability to assess safety needs and follow standardized safety procedures.
* Ability to complete multiple tasks, meet deadlines, remain self-motivated, and work with a minimum of supervision.

Essential Functions:
* Prepares and serves nutritional and attractive meals and snack trays from the planned menu, as well as meals developed for clients' special needs.
* Follows established preventative maintenance procedures and reports equipment failure and maintenance needs to the Resident Manager.
* Maintain positive, enthusiastic, and energetic attitude at all times providing excellent customer service.
* Rotates stock as needed and stocks rations in appropriate areas; checks stock to determine inventory levels; and reports food and supply needs to the Resident Manager.
* Follows established Federal, State, local, and Salvation Army food service procedures, policies and regulations; reports any unsafe acts or violations to the Resident Manager.
* Keeps kitchen clean and well organized.
* Assumes full responsibility of food service operations when Lead Cook and/or Resident Manager is not available.
* Assists other kitchen personnel as needed to accomplish set goals and objectives, sharing suggestions and ideas in staff meetings.
* Completes all required competencies and all relevant courses on Relias Learning, as assigned.
* Attend staff meetings and complete required trainings.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.

Software-related Skills: Microsoft Office Suite recommended and ability to use new software programs with basic training.

Work Environment: The work environment is located in a Residential treatment setting. Noise level is moderate.

Language Skills: Must be able to understand, follow and give both written and oral instructions. The employee must be able to use speech and hearing for ordinary and telephone conversation.

Mathematical Skills: Must be able to perform simple calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) and apply concepts such as ratios and percentages in practical situations.

Performance Skills: Must be creative, self-motivated, organized, flexible, and possess leadership skills.
Sacred Boundaries and Protect the Mission: Must complete the online course for this area and pass the Background Check required by The Salvation Army for employment.

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on intermittent or continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead. Ability to operate a telephone. Ability to lift up to 70 pounds. However, the cook is encouraged to request assistance as needed to avoid injury. A back brace is encouraged to be worn. Special attention must be taken when handling hot food items. Ability to access and produce information from a computer. Ability to understand written information. Ability to operate a motor vehicle in darkness and during periods of inclement weather. Qualified individuals must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation. A qualified person with a disability may request a modification or adjustment to the job or work environment in order to meet the physical requirements of the position.
