Communications Technician Job Description We are seeking Communications Technician to join our team. This role is ideal for a skilled or entry level low-voltage professional who is looking to perform hands-on installation work. Key Responsibilities Installation & Build-Out * Install work area outlets for floor, modular furniture, and wall applications * Terminate CAT 3, CAT 5, and CAT 6 jacks * Mount faceplates and surface boxes correctly while following labeling standards * Build telecommunications closets: * Install backboards, racks, ladder racks, and patch panels * Install fiber optic hardware and cross-connects * Perform rack and stack, cable routing, and dressing * Ensure proper grounding of racks, equipment, and cabling * Complete all IDC terminations (110/66 blocks, patch panels) Testing & Troubleshooting * Perform cable testing (continuity testing for horizontal and riser cable) * Use testing tools such as volt-ohmmeters and tone generators * Troubleshoot issues including opens, shorts, crossed pairs, and transposed pairs * Identify active voice and data circuits Required Skills & Experience * Strong experience in low-voltage cabling and telecom installations * Knowledge of: * Data center environments * J-hooks and cable supports * Industry color codes and standards * Hands-on experience with: * Cable terminations and testing * Rack installation and assembly * Fiber optic systems * Proven ability to lead teams and train others * Strong troubleshooting skills * Experience with CCTV or security systems is a plus * Strong communication and organizational skills Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Trenton, SC. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $23.00 - $24.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
