About the Job

Teaching Assistant (TA) for undergraduate courses taught by the Department of Microbiology and Immunology. Successful candidates will be required to attend the course they are hired to TA. Reference course days and times in the course catalog (available via Course Dog).

Job duties may include:
Guide students through lab exercises
Prepare and present brief introductory lectures
Grading weekly problem set assignments and/or lab notebooks
Grading midterms and final exam
Answer student emails or Canvas posts about class content or make up work
Attend weekly TA meetings
Maintain grading records
Maintain student attendance records

Qualifications

Required qualifications:
Previously taken a course in Microbiology or a related field OR have an undergraduate BA or BS in Microbiology or a related field
Strong communication, writing, and oral presentation skills
Strong time management and interpersonal skills

Preferred qualifications:
Previous teaching experience

About the Department

The Department of Microbiology and Immunology (DMI) is a basic science department in the University of Minnesota (UMN) School of Medicine. Our faculty focus on the study of microorganism and host interactions, and engage in translational research to build and evaluate preclinical and clinical applications of research discoveries aimed at mitigating disease. The department seeks to build on our rich history as we pursue transformational research. DMI faculty have a strong focus on immunology, virology, bacteriology, and fungal biology and they include research and training activities encompassing studies of microbial physiology and genetics, the immune response to infection based around a central theme of interrogating the systems biology of infection, immunity, and diseases.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $30/hour
