Description
A Seasonal Harvest Enology Technician position is available at Ste. Michelle Wine Estates (SMWE). This is a full-time seasonal role based out of the Columbia Crest Winery facility in Paterson, WA. Under supervision, this role performs varied harvest support tasks in the production of red and/or white wine, including tank and barrel sampling during fermentation, organizing daily sample lists, printing labels, updating fermentation tracking spreadsheets, maintaining the tasting lab, supporting work orders, and coordinating with winemaking and lab teams. This role is expected to start in August and will run through November, approximately 2-3 months.

Seasonal Harvest Enology Technician job responsibilities include:



  • Perform daily fermentation sampling for red and/or white wine production, including tank and barrel sampling as needed.
  • Collect and track fermentation data, including brix, temperature, alcohol, pH, TA, G/F, Malic, and other required analysis points as directed.
  • Update fermentation tracking tools and spreadsheets, including barrel fermentation tracking and Tank Link spreadsheets for red wine rounds.
  • Organize daily sample lists and print labels to support winemaking and lab priorities.
  • Clean and maintain the tasting lab daily.
  • Create, issue, or assist with routine work orders for inoculations, additions, and other harvest-related activities as needed.
  • Set up and support bench-top experiments and other winemaking trials as directed.
  • Interact daily with winemaking to prioritize work and respond to changing harvest needs.
  • Coordinate with the lab to obtain required wine analysis at various processing stages.
  • Manage and execute special projects to improve the quality and style of Columbia Crest wines.
  • Assist with tank fermentation sampling, occasional winery cellar work, and other related duties as assigned


Position Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree (preferred).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Previous winery harvest work experience preferred.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English and follow work instructions required.
  • Must be able to work in a temperature-controlled environment, generally 55-80 degrees, and occasionally work outdoors in varied weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces following training.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. repeatedly for up to 4 hours and carry up to 60 lbs. intermittently.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time, up to a full shift, including walking and standing on concrete for extended periods.
  • Ability to walk, squat, kneel, bend at the waist, twist, push, pull, drag, and climb stairs repeatedly.
  • Able to meet schedule requirements, including working extended hours. May work up to 12 hours per shift, 6 days per week, which may include night shift hours.
  • Able to interact well with coworkers and management in creating an atmosphere of teamwork and participation.
  • Proficient in computer skills.
  • History of responsible use of alcohol and other appropriate conduct, as well as fitness to be licensed, permitted, and/or certified by state and/or local regulatory bodies.


    Your Compensation:

    $20.68 - $26.89/hr. based on upon relevant experience.
