THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position supports the appeals process by reviewing cases, preparing legal documents, and helping ensure that hearings are properly scheduled and completed. As a Legal Assistant 1, you will perform the following duties:

  • Appeal Review: Evaluate appeals for compliance with procedural regulations and identify needed actions
  • Scheduling Support: Prepare, update, and distribute hearing schedules and related notices
  • Document Preparation: Draft and process legal documents such as orders, subpoenas, and adjudications
  • Record Management: Maintain electronic and physical files for appeals and hearings
  • Communication Tasks: Respond to inquiries while protecting confidential information and preventing improper communication

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time upon successful completion of your probationary and training period. Work assignments will primarily take place in the office. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of responsible clerical, enforcement or investigative work; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
