Overview

Microsoft has an immediate opening for an experienced Corporate Counsel, Workplace Investigator to join the Workplace Investigations Team in Redmond, Washington or Washington D.C. This is an exciting and unique opportunity to contribute to Microsoft's mission to empower everyone, everywhere to achieve more. As part of our Workplace Investigations Team, you will conduct workplace investigations as we create and maintain a workplace culture where everyone can come and do their best work.



Responsibilities
  • Independentlylead and manageworkplaceinvestigations in an empathetic, fair, neutral, thorough and timely manner.
  • Conduct complex, professional interviews, prepare investigationfindings, and convey ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Exercise considerable judgment and discretion in scenarios that are complex and highly sensitive, consulting with HR and legal counsel as appropriate to ensure consideration of local laws and cultural nuances.
  • Exercise sound judgment to identify and engage appropriate partners and stakeholders to escalate issues and drive action.
  • Make determinations regarding workplace behavior including company policies related todiscrimination, harassment, retaliation,familyand romantic relationship conflicts of interestand sexually explicit or otherwise offensive materials.
  • Partner with HRand other investigation teamsto ensure investigation of employee relations issues in a comprehensive and timely manner.
  • Navigate a complex global organization structurewith excellent communication skills.
  • Respond proactively and develop insights into the tracking and trending of workplace investigation issues.
  • Frequently collaborate with colleagues, stakeholders and partners across different functions to drive innovation of workplace investigative practices.
  • Model compliance and maintain confidentiality, attorney-client privilege, privacy and the security of data.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Juris Doctor Degree or international equivalent degree AND 1+ year(s) experience as a practicing attorney in the areas of employment law or workplace investigations OR equivalent experience.
  • Active license to practice law in a jurisdiction and capable of meeting admission requirements in relevant jurisdiction.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications

  • 3+ years experience as a practicing attorney in the areas of employment law or workplace investigationsOR equivalent experience
  • Experience as a practicing attorney investigating or advising on prelitigation matters, including U.S. state and/or U.S. federal agency charges.
  • Experience at a large international organization working on employment or investigation issues.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of human resources practices.
  • Client service focus and the ability to work independently and efficiently, prioritize demands and manage projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to collaborate and partner effectively with colleagues, stakeholders and leaders.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate complex issues while working with urgency.

Legal Counsel IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $105,800 - $204,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $138,400 - $223,300 per year.
