Summary:

The Portable Equipment Technician is responsible for managing, maintaining, and distributing medical equipment and PPE supplies to support patient care. This role ensures a constant supply of safe, sanitized, and functional equipment, as well as critical Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), across clinical areas through systematic tracking and adherence to safety protocols.

Responsibilities:

Patient Care Equipment Maintenance & Sanitation

  • Inspect assets daily to identify visible damage, wear, or missing parts.
  • Sanitize medical equipment using approved chemicals according to facility guidelines and manufacturer Instructions for Use (IFUs).
  • Affix identification bands to cleaned assets to clearly signify readiness for clinical use.
  • Identify mechanical failures and safely transport damaged assets to Clinical Engineering for professional repair.

Patient Care Equipment Distribution

  • Conduct daily rounds across nursing units to proactively retrieve soiled or underutilized patient equipment.
  • Replenish staging areas throughout the medical facility to maintain asset availability.
  • Transport hazardous or soiled equipment securely in accordance with established infection control policies.

PPE Inventory & Supply Management

  • Monitor PPE levels continuously within clinical units to prevent stockouts of critical PPE supplies.
  • Resupply PPE materials throughout the hospital to ensure staff compliance with infection control protocols.
  • Track inventory counts of PPE supplies to ensure adequate reserves are maintained in storage areas.

Departmental Cross-Support & Backup

  • Provide backup support to Material Management Technicians during peak hours, staff shortages, or high-demand periods.
  • Assist with cross-functional tasks to ensure standard medical inventory and general floor supplies remain adequately stocked across units.

Workflow & Time Management

  • Prioritize daily tasks independently to guarantee all scheduled work is completed on time.
  • Formulate structured workflows to mitigate operational backlogs and avoid department crises.
  • Maintain accurate logs and documentation regarding equipment distribution and maintenance cycles.

Other information:

  • EDUCATION
    • High school graduate or equivalent
  • EXPERIENCE
    • Experience in the areas of Materials Management or nursing would be beneficial.

  • OTHER SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
    • Simple mathematical skills, basic computer skills, effective communication skills, and manual dexterity.
