Tesla is seeking a highly motivated hands-on Manufacturing Engineer for a position in the Energy Manufacturing Engineering group as part of the "machine that builds the machine". The role is focused on working within a cross functional team to design and develop high quality, efficient manufacturing equipment and processes that will produce products for Tesla Energy. What You'll Do
- Provide DFM/A (design for manufacturing/assembly) input to the product design team to eliminate or simplify processes and tooling
- Determine the layout of production workstations, optimizing for product flow, ergonomics, and overall efficiency
- Determine and procure the necessary equipment for all manufacturing processes, while managing suppliers through specification, design, buyoff, and installation
- Develop manufacturing equipment and fixtures to support early-stage prototype builds and medium- to high-volume production, collaborating with equipment integrators on design and manufacturing
- Support building, debugging, validation and equipment duplication efforts, and fine-tune equipment for release to production
- Conduct detailed testing and validation of installed machinery, including on-site and off-site acceptance testing (SAT/FAT), to ensure robustness and quality
- Lead problem-solving activities to ramp up production equipment and ensure performance criteria are met for a smooth handoff to the factory operations team
What You'll Bring
- 2+ years of experience as Mechanical/Manufacturing/Automation Engineer with focus in automation, machine design, robotics, and product development
- Experience using 2D CAD tools for conceptual line design (AutoCAD) and 3D design for mechanical equipment, fixturing, and tooling (SolidWorks or CATIA)
- Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production
- Experience with GD&T and stack-up analysis
- Experience creating technical specifications for automated manufacturing equipment
- Experience collaborating with engineering, construction, and operations personnel
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a similar field, or equivalent experience
