The Microsoft Frontier Company team is a global engineering organization that works directly with customers looking to leverage the latest technologies to address their toughest challenges.

We work closely with our customers' engineers to jointly develop code for cloud-based solutions that can accelerate their organization. We work in collaboration with Microsoft product teams, partners, and open-source communities to empower our customers to do more with the cloud. We develop solutions side-by-side with our customers through collaborative innovation to solve their challenges. This work involves the development of broadly applicable, high-impact solution patterns and open-source software assets that contribute to the Microsoft platform.

As a Director of Business Programs in Frontier Company, you will help build and run the business behind Forward Deployed Engineering, the model we use to put Microsoft engineers inside our customers' hardest problems. You will shape how work enters the portfolio and what earns priority, set the cadences that keep engineering teams, industry advisors, field teams, partners, and customers working to one playbook and one quality bar, and hold that standard across every team, industry, and region we serve. You will also quantify what the work is worth, translating engineering effort into business outcomes and results that customers and executives can celebrate, and closing the loop so the impact outlasts the engagement.

This is a function being built rather than inherited, and this opportunity will allow you to shape it. You will build deep AI and industry fluency at the center of Microsoft's most complex customer engagements, sharpen your executive influence as you shape how a global engineering organization measures and preserves the value it creates, and learn how to scale a new operating model from the ground up. You will do it alongside software engineers, technical program managers, data scientists, designers, and customer executives, on a team where new technology, open source, and close collaboration with Microsoft product teams are part of the work every day.

• To stay competitive, you will perform program landscape analysis and examine business trends, while contributing to programs impacting Microsoft. You'll also identify opportunities to develop and improve programs, surfacing upstream insights when delivery outcomes lag, and drive program strategy definition and project plan creation.

• You will drive strategic alignment across engineering teams, industry advisors, field teams, partners, and customers to design crucial programs from initiation to delivery. You'll also use subject matter expertise to drive the definition and tracking of success criteria and performance metrics at the portfolio level rather than the individual activity level.

• You will set best practices to define and execute on a landing and communication plan, owning the operating cadences and business rhythms that drive clear outcomes during execution. You'll also use your subject matter expertise to maintain one consistent playbook and quality standard across the portfolio, and to promote the program and gain buy-in from stakeholders, partners, and customers.

• As you oversee a portfolio of projects, you'll keep programs data-current and progressing against leadership-agreed milestones, communicating status and risk to stakeholders and holding them accountable to following the schedule. You'll also drive collaboration between teams and maintain the portfolio hygiene that lets the business scale without operational drift.

• You will provide deep expertise to conduct cost-benefit analyses and capture, analyze, and report defensible, quantifiable business results traceable to customer impact, instrumenting return-on-investment frameworks so performance stays observable. You'll also optimize the use of data analytics to derive insights and identify risks and opportunities, steward the close-out loop so impact is sustained and handed over after delivery, and drive material capability uplift through AI as you influence change management processes in the organization.
