Job Summary

The Departmental Assistant, CVT Lab Instructor is a part-time instructor who supports instructional laboratories in the UMass Amherst Veterinary Technology Program. The CVT Lab Instructor provides hands-on clinical instruction to students practicing essential skills according to best veterinary practices. This position will work alongside veterinary technology program faculty, staff and students providing fear free veterinary care to all patients and showing exemplary clinical skills. This position is capable of performing veterinary nursing skills, providing animal restraint, and teaching veterinary nursing procedures to veterinary technology students with kindness and clinical proficiency.

This position is part-time working up to 20 hours per week during the academic year (September-May).

Essential Functions

Certified Veterinary Technologist, graduate from an AVMA accredited program.

The CVT Lab Instructor provides clear, effective instruction and guidance to students during laboratory sessions.

Work alongside faculty veterinarians and veterinary technologists to provide excellent clinical nursing instruction.

Performs veterinary clinical procedures including, but not limited to, venipuncture, anesthesia induction and monitoring, physical examinations, I.V. catheter placement and management, cystocentesis, and urinary catheterization.

Due to surgical demands of this role, position requires standing for duration of laboratory session lasting from 2-5 hours.

Responsibilities include lifting patients, restraining patients, and moving equipment.

Other Functions

Work collaboratively and effectively to promote teamwork, equality and inclusiveness.

Work in partnership with colleagues within the CNS community and across the campus to support the Dean's strategic priorities.

Perform other duties as assigned in support of the mission and goals of the College of Natural Sciences.

Minimum Qualifications

A.S. or B.S. Veterinary Technology.

Minimum 2 years clinical veterinary experience with proficiency in all aspects of veterinary nursing.

CVT with current certification in Massachusetts.

Preferred Qualifications

B.S. Veterinary Technology.

Teaching experience preferred but not required.

Additional Details

Due to surgical demands of this role, position requires standing for duration of laboratory session lasting from 2-5 hours. This position requires working with patients and colleagues in a collaborative manner.

Work Schedule and Work Arrangement

The work schedule coincides with course schedule during academic year.

Salary Information

Hourly Rate:$25 - $35
