Part-Time Professional ELL/English Tutor

The Language Lab Department is looking to hire a Part-Time Non-Benefited Professional English Language Learning (ELL)/English Tutor. The ELL/English Tutor will be asked to perform the following tasks. The ELL/English Tutor would be required to work on campus.

Responsibilities:



  • Tutor grammatical, semantic, and pragmatic aspects of the English language to BHCC students who are English learners in various courses.
  • Read and evaluate student writing and assignments and provide constructive feedback.
  • Assist Language Lab users to improve English reading and listening comprehension skills, to improve speaking, and gain academic readiness skills.
  • Conduct or assist faculty with workshops, orientations, and any other activities, particularly language learning activities.
  • Lead conversation groups for English Language Learners.
  • Schedule tutoring appointments, class visits, and other activities in the Language Lab.
  • Provide information about Language Lab services, general digital resources for language learning, and BHCC's other digital resources for students.
  • Coordinate activities with Language Lab coordinator and staff.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of research and best practices in non-native language acquisition, tutoring and academic support methodologies, and educational technology.
  • Train in TOEFL and IELTS language tests and tutor TOEFL and IELTS test preparation as needed.
  • Assist with other Language Lab duties as needed


Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, English, or Education.
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse faculty, staff and student populations.
  • Native or near native English fluency.
  • Proficiency with instructional technology and Microsoft Office; ability to quickly learn new software programs and platforms used at BHCC.
  • ESL/EFL teaching/tutoring experience
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate engaging, student-centered, and interactive learning environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills


Preferred Requirements:




  • Master's degree, Massachusetts teaching licensure, and/or TESOL certification preferred.




Additional Information:

Salary: 18/hrs week @ $36.55/hr

Part-Time, Non-Benefited position, In-Person on Charlestown Campus
