WHAT YOU WILL DO
The IT Project Manager provides visibility, predictability, and coordination across Thompson
Machinery's IT project portfolio to support reliable delivery of business value, working closely with technical managers, business stakeholders, and vendors to maintain delivery forecasts, coordinate execution, facilitate governance, and support informed decision-making by IT leadership. The role begins with an assessment of current delivery practices and implementation of approved improvements, followed by ongoing operation and continuous improvement of the delivery framework.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES
Portfolio Planning & Forecasting:
- Maintain the approved project portfolio, delivery forecasts, sequencing assumptions, and capacity forecasts based on manager-provided resource data.
- Identify resource constraints, dependency conflicts, and delivery risks.
- Provide forecasting, portfolio analysis, and recommendations to support governance and prioritization decisions.
Project Delivery:
- Directly manage projects assigned by the Director of IT.
- Maintain project schedules, milestones, forecasts, RAID logs, and stakeholder communications.
- Coordinate delivery activities across Infrastructure, Data Engineering, Application
- Development, business stakeholders, and vendors.
- Facilitate issue resolution and coordinate recovery plans when commitments are at risk.
- Maintain portfolio-wide visibility, reporting, and coordination, including projects led by technical managers.
Portfolio Visibility & Governance:
- Maintain a single, trusted source of project portfolio reporting for IT leadership.
- Consolidate project information across PM-led and manager-led initiatives.
- Facilitate portfolio review and governance meetings.
- Communicate project status, risks, dependencies, constraints, and delivery impacts.
ERP Sustainment & Vendor Governance:
- Coordinate ERP (DBS and D365) enhancement requests, defect remediation efforts, support escalations, and vendor-managed project work.
- Monitor vendor commitments, risks, and delivery performance through regular reviews and escalation.
- Ensure ERP sustainment activities are incorporated into portfolio planning and reporting.
Delivery Framework Ownership:
- Assess project delivery, reporting, governance, forecasting, and tooling practices.
- Recommend practical improvements that increase visibility and delivery predictability.
- Implement approved framework improvements.
- Maintain the approved project delivery framework, reporting standards, governance processes, and forecasting practices.
Working Relationships:
- Technical managers are responsible for requirements, estimates, resource assignments, technical execution, and technical quality.
- The Senior IT Project Manager is responsible for planning, forecasting, governance, communication, and delivery coordination.
- The Director of IT is responsible for prioritization, approvals, resource conflict resolution, budget authority, and major process decisions.
Required Competencies:
- Build and maintain realistic, capacity-based delivery plans across multiple workstreams.
- Re-plan quickly when constraints or priorities change; make scope, schedule, and tradeoffs explicit.
- Experience identifying and escalating delivery risk before deadlines are threatened.
- Operate effectively without positional authority, influencing through clarity, facts, and alignment.
- Partner with functional managers and technical leads to maintain predictability, clarify ownership, and coordinate execution across teams.
- Demonstrated predictability and transparency in delivery reporting, with proactive signaling to minimize late surprises.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Seven or more years of hands-on project management experience.
KNOWLEDGE, TECHNICAL SKILL & ABILITIES
- Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and competing priorities.
- Experience with forecasting, capacity planning, governance, RAID management, stakeholder communication, and vendor coordination.
- Experience using project management, portfolio management, and work management tools.
- Ability to learn, administer, and operate project and portfolio management tooling selected by Thompson Machinery.
- ERP implementation, enhancement, sustainment, integration, or vendor-management experience is a plus but not required.
