This position will be open to internal and external applicants and will close on Sunday, October 4, 2026.

The Drafter position pays $48,720 to $60,900 and the Senior Drafter position pays $55,520 to $69,400. Pay is based on skills, experience and education of the successful candidate.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops cost-effective piping, pipe support, structural, mechanical, and electrical designs for projects initiated by Engineering staff.
  • Assists with the development of working drawings and construction packages using such tools as mechanical drawing and CADD. Completes work packages, including new drawings, calculations, revised drawings, engineering sketches, bills of material, vendor drawings, purchase requisitions, etc. Obtains "as-built" information from the field to incorporate into the final file drawings.
  • Utilizes AutoCAD and other advanced CADD tools in the performance of drafting work.
  • Obtains information to complete designs including field measurements, existing drawings, vendor information, engineer interviews, standards, etc., to complete the designs efficiently.
  • Under general supervision, provides drawing interpretation during the installation and construction phase of the project.
  • Continually improves drafting and design expertise through training in new areas of expertise, learning new CADD techniques and software, and on the job experience working hand in hand with engineers.



Successful Candidate Must Have



  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent
  • Drafter: No experience required
  • Senior Drafter: A minimum of 3 years related experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Preferences:


    • Experience using CADD software, such as AutoCAD


    • Experience interpreting and working with survey alignment sheets, electrical layouts, and/or bore profile drawings






Working Conditions

Travel from home office to NMGC service areas expected and could be frequent. During those periods, may be working outdoors in hot, dry, wind and/or cold conditions. And may work in conditions with areas of elevated noise (hearing protection required). Working conditions could include areas active construction sites (hard hat and steel toed shoes required). Working some overtime (nights, weekends and holidays).

Physical Demands/Requirements

Walking, bending, climbing 10% to 20% of the work day. Sitting at a desk / computer workstation up to 80% of the work day. This position can requires climbing stairs and scaffolding, utilizing safety harnesses, respiratory protection and other PPE required by the work environment and in accordance with OSHA requirements. Ability to stand and walk for extended period of time. Working in noise, dust and high wind areas while utilizing personnel protection equipment.
