Construction Project Manager, Transportation/Infrastructure

RK&K is seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Project Manager/Construction Manager to lead the successful delivery of transportation, infrastructure, rail, utility, and transit projects throughout Northern Virginia and the Washington, DC metropolitan region. This leadership role is responsible for managing complex projects from planning through construction, serving as a trusted advisor to clients, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.

Essential Functions

• Lead and manage multiple construction and infrastructure projects simultaneously.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, public agencies, and project stakeholders.
• Direct multidisciplinary project teams, including construction managers, resident engineers, inspectors, and technical staff.
• Oversee project scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk management activities.
• Monitor contractor performance and resolve construction challenges, change orders, claims, and field issues.
• Lead project meetings, stakeholder coordination efforts, and client communications.
• Manage project financial performance, including forecasting, staffing, and invoicing.
• Ensure compliance with contract requirements, agency standards, safety regulations, and quality management procedures.
• Mentor and develop project staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performing team environment.
• Support business development efforts, including client relationship management, proposal development, and pursuit of new opportunities.

Required Skills and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• 15+ years of progressive experience in project and construction management, preferably within transportation and public infrastructure.
• Proven experience managing large, complex construction projects and multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong understanding of construction contracts, project controls, risk management, and quality assurance processes.
• Demonstrated success working with agencies such as VDOT, DDOT, Fairfax County, Arlington County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, WMATA, or MWAA.
• Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and client relationship skills.
• Professional Engineer (P.E.)

Preferred Skills and Experience

• VDOT Testing Certifications
• FHWA-approved Comprehensive Bridge Inspection Training certification.
• Qualified NBIS Bridge Inspection Team Leader preferred.
• Experience conducting or managing bridge inspections in accordance with FHWA and VDOT requirements.
• Certified Construction Manager (CCM), Project Management Professional (PMP), OSHA 30 training, and related construction management certifications preferred.

Physical Demands

This role requires the ability to perform field inspections on active construction sites. The employee must be able to stand and walk for extended periods, navigate uneven terrain, and climb ladders or stairs. Ability to lift and carry inspection equipment and materials weighing up to 20-30 pounds on an occasional basis, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may include exposure to construction-related hazards.
