Company Description
We were early to the fight against Ubiquitous Technical Surveillance, and we've been pushing the edge ever since. Our mission is to help government and enterprise organizations understand and manage commercial data risks, shape their digital signatures, and operate with confidence in an increasingly complex information landscape. We build and integrate advanced, tech-forward solutions to problems our customers often don't know they have - until it matters most. We move fast, think critically, and deliver where it counts. What's in it for you? We work hard and do fun things. You'll work on high-impact, technically challenging problems alongside a team that values teamwork over competition. Veilant offers a solid work-life balance and flexible remote work options. At Veilant, you'll work with the most talented software developers, systems engineers, and subject matter experts, building tools and systems that make a real difference. Job DescriptionBuild it. Secure it. Make it better. The problem might be DNS. It might be routing, Linux permissions, a firewall rule, or something buried in the virtualization stack. You enjoy figuring out how the pieces fit together, narrowing down the cause, and working with teammates to leave the environment stronger than you found it. Veilant is looking for a Systems Engineer to help build, deploy, secure, and maintain mission focused infrastructure. You will work alongside other experienced engineers across Linux, networking, virtualization, cloud, security, and automation. This role calls for technical curiosity, sound judgment, and follow through. You should be comfortable at the Linux command line, able to investigate and narrow down common issues, and willing to ask questions or bring in the right engineer when you need support. Why You Will Want to Work Here You will join people who enjoy infrastructure, solving difficult problems, and sharing what they know. You will also have support. Our technical 24x7 Network and Security Operations Center monitors the environment around the clock, helping reduce constant on call pressure and giving engineers more room to focus on improvements, thoughtful changes, and lasting fixes. Choose the laptop that works for you: MacBook, Windows, or Linux. Expect a few friendly opinions about your choice. Outside the technical work, you will find an active board game group, Xbox gamers, and colleagues who enjoy spending time together. We take the mission seriously and value having a life outside work. What You Will Do Your core work will be Linux administration and common network troubleshooting. You will also support infrastructure work across physical, virtualized, and cloud environments alongside the relevant engineers.
What Success Looks Like in Your First Six Months You will build an understanding of the environment, own routine work on your assigned systems, and contribute to complex changes with support from experienced engineers. By the end of your first six months, you should be able to:
What You Bring Must Haves
We are looking for someone who asks useful questions, tests assumptions, and knows when to move quickly and when to slow down and validate a change. Helpful experience (not required)
Exposure to any of these areas is helpful; we do not expect experience in all of them. Strong Linux and networking fundamentals, troubleshooting ability, and the willingness to learn matter. Who Will Enjoy This Role You enjoy infrastructure and want to understand how it works. You have opinions about useful documentation, sensible firewall rules, reliable monitoring, and when a reboot actually solves a problem. You want ownership, room to improve things, and teammates who care about the quality of their work. If that sounds like you, apply today! Additional InformationWhat is the Compensation Range for this role? The salary range for this position is $135,000 - $185,000 annually for full-time status. Actual compensation within this range at Veilant is determined by numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, including experience, education, certifications, technical skills, as well as contract-specific affordability and labor categories, the scope and responsibilities of the role, market and business considerations, and geographic location.
