Your responsibilities will include:

Welding & Metal Fabrication

  • Weld and tack-weld metal components using spot welding guns, hand-operated, electric, or gas welding equipment.

  • Perform welding operations to join metal components, seal tension points, reinforce structures, and build up metal surfaces.

  • Guide and control welding electrodes or flames to straighten, bend, melt, or build up metal.

  • Select and position welding rods, torches, and cutting tips based on metal type, thickness, work area, and required temperature.

  • Preheat metal components using torches in preparation for welding or bending.

Cutting & Equipment Operation

  • Connect torch hoses to oxygen and fuel-gas tanks, operate valves, ignite torches, and regulate gas and airflow to achieve the required flame temperature, size, and intensity.

  • Cut metal components, dismantle metal assemblies, and process scrap materials using thermal-cutting equipment, including flame-cutting torches and plasma-arc equipment.

  • Safely operate welding tools and equipment in accordance with established procedures.

Shipbuilding & Structural Assembly

  • Position, align, and secure metal components using hoists, cranes, wire and banding machines, and hand tools.

  • Coordinate with crane operators by providing signals to safely move and position large workpieces.

  • Work on ladders, scaffolding, and elevated structures as required during ship construction and assembly.

  • Support the fabrication and assembly of structural components used throughout naval vessels.

Quality & Precision

  • Inspect completed work for defects and verify that components meet established specifications.

  • Measure and check workpieces using straightedges, templates, tape measures, levels, and squares.

  • Develop and apply the ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical instructions.

  • Maintain accuracy, quality, and attention to detail throughout welding and fabrication activities.
