Job Description

Develops and implements programs, policies and procedures associated with the recognition, measurement, evaluation, and control of industrial health hazards. Maintains written programs, training, industrial hygiene monitoring, risk assessments, and audits.

Job Responsibility

  • Interprets regulatory requirements, monitors and advises on emerging hazards in health care and biomedical research, and oversees the preparation, maintenance, and updating of all practice specific policy and procedure manuals. Performs assessments to characterize employee exposures to hazardous agents; documents in accordance with industrial hygiene program guidelines; ensures all safety related documentation is managed and maintained in compliance with regulatory requirements. Works with internal stakeholders to provide technical guidance in the identification, assessment, and control of workplace hazards and compliance with applicable codes and regulations. Determines appropriate monitoring and sampling strategies; provides interpretation of sampling results; develops appropriate engineering controls, work practices, and corrective actions to mitigate and eliminate hazards.
  • Develops training curriculum and implements occupational safety and health training for diverse audiences within the organization community; evaluates the effectiveness of various training methods. Provides oversight of accident and incident investigations and implementation of corrective action plans; also provides technical support for workplace injury and illness management activities. Develops, implements, and evaluates department/facility processes for incident investigation.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders by providing technical guidance on workplace hazards and controls, and hazard reduction strategies.
  • Participates in research studies and development of techniques to measure and evaluate novel workplace hazards..
  • Operates under general guidance and work assignments are varied and require interpretation and independent decisions on course of action.

  • Occasional Travel to offsite locations on Long Island to educate on Occupational Safety and Health
  • 4 times (at max) a year travel to Albany for Quarterly Meeting

Job Qualification

  • Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Current Industrial Hygienist Certification required, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
