Waste Connections has designed a 60-90 day hands on SkillBridge approved mechanic internship. We have continuous open enrollment and are currently taking applications for 2024 interns. The internship will take place at our Rapid City, SD shop, Kieffer Sanitation. The first 60-90 days will focus on high-level preventative maintenance mechanic tasks. Interns will have the option to end at 90 days or extend up to 180 days. After 90 days the intern will begin using the learned skills to complete mechanic work with supervision. As the internship program progresses the intern will have opportunities to observe and work on more difficult maintenance repairs. The length of the internship after 90 days will be decided by the intern. Fulltime mechanic opportunities are available to interested & successful interns. The primary goal of equipment maintenance is to help prolong the life of the vehicle and reduce vehicle failures therefore providing a worry-free and safe driving experience for our commercial licensed drivers. Individual Mechanic Activity you will learn during this internship: * Perform preventative maintenance services and repairs. * Performs inspections, diagnosis, and repair of electrical, hydraulics, suspension brake and air systems on vehicles and equipment. * Utilize vehicle computer electrical systems to interpret failure modes to initiate or assign repairs. * Complete required paperwork utilizing fleet maintenance software program. * Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports. * Conducts safety checks on vehicles and equipment. * Maintain a clean, safe work environment in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards. * Work environment is indoors in a shop * An Intern must take safety seriously, be adaptable to the needs of the fleet, and be a dependable part of the maintenance team. Internship eligibility requirements include: * Negative drug screen result prior to the first day of the internship * We will accept Installation, Maintenance & Repair job family as well as anytransitioning Service Memberthat has mechanical experience * An Intern must be able and willing to work as an individual contributor that is also a part of a team working toward a team goal.
