Moffatt & Nichol is an industry leader in the surface transportation sector both nationally and internationally. Our North Carolina team is actively looking for a Transportation Engineer to join our Raleigh office. As part of the Transportation Group, this role will provide engineering design support on a variety of projects - roadway, municipal, port, or rail design and develop plans for projects across North Carolina, US, and potentially internationally. The best candidate will be familiar with a variety of civil engineering projects related to transportation and have experience working on NCDOT projects.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Perform engineering design tasks for roadway, municipal, rail and port projects from preliminary to final design
  • Develop specifications, cost estimates, and prepare final bid packages
  • Begin to foster relationships with regulatory agencies, local government, NCDOT and state clients, as well as private clients
  • Provide engineering design services for traditional design and design-build highway projects
  • Mentor and assist junior engineers in developing final design plans, including but not limited to implementation and knowledge of cross sections, traffic control, drainage, and signing and pavement markings plans
  • Assist in coordinating design activities and meetings between design staff, subcontractors, and client managers
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance
  • Identify schedule and cost variances and develop and implement recommendations for corrective actions

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil or Transportation related engineering; required
  • 3 to 5 years of experience designing transportation/roadway engineering projects; required
  • Professional Engineer licensure or ability to obtain within 6 months of start date; required
  • Software experience required:
    • Microstation/Geopak, OpenRoads Designer
    • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
    • Bluebeam Revu and/or Adobe Acrobat
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation); required
  • Availability and willingness to travel
  • All new hires will be required to successfully complete and pass a pre-employment (post offer) background check in compliance with NIST 800-171

Working conditions:

Majority of work is office based. Some site visits may be required which may necessitate navigating unpaved or natural terrain while carrying equipment.
