Commercial Construction Assistant Superintendent
The Assistant Superintendent plays a crucial role in orchestrating field operations for designated areas and self-performed or subcontracted trades on a given project. This involves meticulous coordination to ensure that construction activities align with the project's planned sequence and schedule. Assistant Superintendents take charge of implementing and enforcing essential safety and quality control procedures throughout the construction process. Their responsibilities encompass overseeing the day-to-day activities in their assigned areas, collaborating with various trades, and ensuring that work is executed efficiently and in compliance with established standards. Additionally, they act as a key liaison between on-site teams and project management, contributing to the overall success and timely completion of the construction project.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee and coordinate the installation of work in accordance with contract documents, project schedule, and planned work sequence. Stay informed about project milestone dates and the necessary requirements to achieve them.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of the Contract Documents and the scope of work for the specific area(s) or trade(s) assigned.
  • Develop insights into the duration of each activity and apply knowledge of equipment capability to optimize utilization.
  • Be aware of scheduled delivery dates for materials and equipment that directly impact the assigned area(s)/trade(s).
  • Supervise the field workforce to ensure cost-effective placement of all work. Have a clear understanding of budgets for supervised work and address any cost misalignments.
  • Implement the safety program, conducting regular safety inspections to ensure compliance with company and government standards. Take corrective action when necessary and establish hazard recognition procedures at the start of each new activity.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with subcontractors and suppliers.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Business, Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in managing aspects of a construction project(s) in excess of three (3) million dollars
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience in Microsoft Office, Procore, and Bluebeam as well as an understanding of Primavera scheduling and BIM
  • DBIA and/or LEED Accreditation
  • OSHA 30, First Aid, and CPR certifications
  • LEED GA accreditation at a minimum, specialty accreditation a plus
  • Understanding of the strategic, operational, and financial components of a construction project
