Postdoc in Network Management and Localization at Saint Louis University

Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, is seeking applicants for a postdoctoral position in collaboration with theUniversity of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).

This positionis funded by a collaborative project funded by the Taylor Geospatial Institute (https://taylorgeospatial.org/). The title of the project is: "Rethinking Multimodal Localization Systems at Scale in Challenging Scenarios". The project aims to advance research in the field of network-based localization by looking at GPS alternatives, e.g., but not limited to, 5G networks, by harnessing the potential of multimodal approaches. Examples of solutions would explore the synergy between Open-Radio Access Networks (ORAN), LiDAR Cameras, and smart access points equipped with multimodal antennas to enhance localization accuracy and scalability.

The initial appointment is for one year and can be renewed for the second year contingent upon funding availability and satisfactory performance evaluation. The postdoc candidate is expected to catalyze collaborations among the PIs and will be jointly supervised by Drs. Flavio Esposito, Wei Wang, Nan Cen (Computer Science at Saint Louis University), and Dr. Klara Nahrstedt - Professor and Chair of Computer Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC).

The candidate is expected to have a PhD in Computer Science or a related field, a record of scholarly research and publications, and a strong desire and ability to write grant proposals. Successful applicants will have the followingskills and qualifications:

  • Expertise in computer network management, including 5G networks (required).

  • Expertise in wireless communication and 5G networks (required).

  • Proficiency in software development and programming (required).

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills (required).

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal (required).

  • Collaboration and teamwork abilities (required).

  • Knowledge of ORAN and OAI(nice to have).

  • Familiarity with multimodal localization systems (nice to have).

  • Experience in localization systems (nice to have).

1) a cover letter clarifying career goals and why the candidate is a good fit for the position;

2) a resume/curriculum vitae;

3) A 3-page maximum research statement at least half of which must be focused on future research plans, and

4) 2 letters of recommendation, at least one of which from the applicant's Ph.D. mentor.
