The Parks and Recreation department is seeking a Parks Superintendent to support the development and implementation of best-in-practice programs for Parks management and to supervise all maintenance and safety operations of Neighborhood Parks, Facilities and Landscape areas. This position will schedule and assign tasks, manage all expenditures, work with businesses and vendors, monitor resources, manage schedules and construction projects, oversee graffiti eradications and painting projects, interpret data and documents, research trends, develop goals and procedures, consult with internal and external departments and agencies, manage safety concerns and ensure city and department goals, policies and objectives are followed.

The ideal candidate for this position will be comfortable with:



  • Hiring, training, supervising and evaluating staff.
  • Managing workflow processes to measure performance and efficiency outcomes.
  • Assisting with managing open space and natural resources.
  • Assisting with complex problem situations and coordinating programs.
  • Recommending projects and reviewing plans.
  • Coordinating purchasing activities and maintaining records.
  • Preparing and delivering presentations.


Additionally, our ideal candidate will be a highly skilled, safety conscious, punctual team player with a high work ethic. Someone who understands they will be hired to perform a full-time job that is schedule and work order driven. This person will need to be comfortable and able to execute the essential functions in high traffic, public use areas. The ideal candidate must be self-motivated and able to work both individually and with a team.

Other Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMNETS:



  • Education: Bachelor's degree in any field or equivalent
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years related experience. Requires a broad knowledge of complex systems, specialized practices, equipment maintenance, workflow systems and procedures.
  • Licenses/Certifications/Special Requirements:

    • Playground Safety Certification within 6 months of hire
    • Pesticide/Herbicide Applicator's License within 6 months of hire
    • Backflow/Check Valve Certification required within 6 months of hire
    • Valid Arizona Driver's License





PREFERRED/DESIREABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

3 years of supervisory experience

Technical experience with GIS
