Position Description: |
The Department of Health and Human Physiology at the University of Iowa invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Instruction, Associate Professor of Instruction, or Professor of Instruction position teaching undergraduate courses in the department, with a start date in January or August 2025. This is an instructional-track (non-tenure) faculty position with opportunities for promotion if criteria are met (Associate Professor of Instruction, Professor of Instruction). The position is renewable in one-year increments for the first three years, and renewable thereafter in three- or five-year increments (depending on rank). Applications are sought from candidates who have: 1) demonstrated evidence of outstanding teaching in the following areas: human physiology, and/or human anatomy and physiology and other related courses within the candidate's expertise. 2) excellent communication skills. Applicants must have a master's or PhD degree or equivalent in human physiology, kinesiology, exercise physiology, applied physiology, or a closely related field awarded by the start date. University and Department The University of Iowa is one of the nation's premier public research universities with 33,564 students from 114 countries and all 50 states. The Department of Health and Human Physiology is a thriving program with multiple majors, minors, and focus areas. The department has shown significant growth over the past several years and is currently the largest department at the University of Iowa with 2300+ undergraduate students across six majors including Human Physiology, Exercise Science, Health Studies, Health Promotion, Sport and Recreation Management, and Therapeutic Recreation. To accommodate this growth, a new six-story, $249 million Health Science Academic Building that will house the Departments of Health and Human Physiology, Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Sciences, and Communication Sciences and Disorders, is scheduled to be completed in spring 2026. This new building will become a hub for innovative teaching and learning, community outreach and engagement, experiential education, and cutting-edge biomedical, clinical, and community health-related research. Education Requirement: |
- Master's degree or PhD in human physiology, kinesiology, exercise physiology, applied physiology, or related field awarded by position start date.

Required Qualifications: |
- Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching as a primary instructor in undergraduate human physiology and/or human anatomy and physiology.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills.

Desirable Qualifications: |
- PhD in human physiology, kinesiology, exercise physiology, applied physiology, or related field is preferred.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in exercise physiology, clinical exercise physiology, biomechanics, motor control, human anatomy, or other related courses within the candidate's expertise.
- Demonstrated effectiveness teaching in large enrollment courses at the collegiate level
- Experience teaching in an online format
- Previous supervision of graduate teaching assistants or other instructors
- Previous 'laboratory' teaching experience at the collegiate level in one or more of the following areas: human physiology, human anatomy, exercise physiology.
- Demonstrated experience with undergraduate course design and/or development and support of curricular innovation
- Regular participation in discipline-appropriate professional societies and/or experience with other types of undergraduate science education initiatives.
