Position Description

The American Psychological Association-accredited Clinical Psychology Program in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at UMass Amherst (http://www.psych.umass.edu) invites applications for two tenure-track, academic year, Assistant Professor faculty positions starting in fall 2025. For each position, we seek an outstanding and innovative scientist with an established record of success and a research program that has the potential to address major issues in the field of mental health. The applicant should be able to teach courses relevant to clinical psychology, including practicum supervision (which will involve clinical licensure in Massachusetts, expected within 3 years). We recognize that high-impact research programs can take many forms, including those that have potential for sustained extramural funding, drive paradigm changes in public policy and/or discourse, and/or pioneer the study of new and important areas within clinical psychology.

Applicants may possess expertise in any area of clinical psychology that complements and/or broadens existing strengths in our program and department (e.g., psychopathology, substance use disorders, psychotherapy, mental health care dissemination and implementation, clinical diversity science, neuropsychology, clinical neuroscience). We are excited to review applications from candidates who use a range of rigorous methodologies in their research-including community-based, qualitative, and/or advanced quantitative-and who are eager to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, including clinical supervision. Candidates from diverse backgrounds (e.g., Black, Latinx, Indigenous, LGBTQIA+) are particularly encouraged to apply.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, or a closely related field, by the date of hire.
  • Training consistent with eligibility for clinical licensure in Massachusetts (https://www.mass.gov/how-to/apply-for-a-psychologist-license).
  • Excellent record of scholarly achievement (broadly defined).
  • Dedication to centering and enhancing excellence in inclusiveness and belonging in research, teaching, service, and/or outreach.

Application Instructions

Along with the application, please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of research interests, statement of teaching and clinical training philosophy, Contributions to Inclusive Excellence Statement (see below), three representative research publications, and contact information for three professional references. We will begin reviewing applications on October 11, 2024, and will accept applications until the positions are filled.

At UMass Amherst and in CNS, we strive to be a community where every individual feels a sense of belonging, where every individual is included, and where every individual is valued. You can find these values and goals here: https://www.umass.edu/strategicplan/strategic-plan. For this reason, we request that all applicants submit a Contributions to Inclusive Excellence Statement that addresses how you see yourself contributing to our community and campus climate and/or our shared goals of building a more inclusive, equitable, and diverse community.

The University is committed to active recruitment of a diverse faculty and student body. The University of Massachusetts Amherst is an Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employer of women, minorities, protected veterans, and individuals with disabilities and encourages applications from these and other protected group members. Because broad diversity is essential to an inclusive climate and critical to the University's goals of achieving excellence in all areas, we will holistically assess the many qualifications of each applicant and favorably consider an individual's record working with students and colleagues with broadly diverse perspectives, experiences, and backgrounds in educational, research or other work activities. We will also favorably consider experience overcoming or helping others overcome barriers to an academic career and degree.
