The State Highway Administration's (SHA) Office of Materials Technology (Anne Arundel County) is currently recruiting for a Pavement Design Team Leader (Transportation Engineering Manager I) position. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. All eligible candidates must meet the minimum and selective qualifications by the closing date. Nature of Work: The Pavement Design Team Leader is the Design Section's District Team Leader in the Office of Materials Technology's Pavement and Geotechnical Division (PAGD). This position reports directly to the Assistant Division Chief and is responsible for the supervision and leadership of a District Design Team. The Design Team comprises three to four full-time SHA engineers and consultant staff. The Pavement Design Team Leader also provides direction/ guidance, assigns and reviews work (in one or two SHA district(s)) by design staff, and assures design staff completes work on time and within budget. Additionally, they will conduct work independently with minimal guidance on design projects and are responsible for the team's overall performance.
The Pavement Design Team Leader position is not just about individual responsibilities but about being part of a supportive team. Maintaining the division's support of the SHA business plan goals and meeting the high workload production demand is necessary. As the technical lead for all pavement and geotechnical recommendations in the assigned district(s), you will work closely with your team and other departments to provide pavement and geotechnical engineering support to the SHA project delivery process. Together, this position will ensure that project deadlines and goals are met and that designs meet identified Division and SHA standards. The Pavement Design Team Leader will work closely with district(s) and the Office of the Chief Engineer regarding System Preservation budgeting, treatment, and project selection, fostering a collaborative environment where everyone's contributions are valued.
The Pavement Design Team Leader ensures their team completes pavement and geotechnical design functions for all projects in the respective district(s). Design functions include evaluating existing soil and pavement conditions, designing roadway embankments and subgrade stabilization improvements, designing new pavement structures, and developing pavement preservation and rehabilitation strategies.
