*This is a contracted position & will end on May 31, 2025 and will report to our Salinas location 3 days a week and work remotely 2.

As part of our collaboration with the California Institute of Law, Neuroscience, and Education, we are seeking a skilled reading interventionist to contribute to the design and implementation of a specialized literacy program. This intervention is aimed at enhancing the reading skills of system-involved and at-risk youth, and will be delivered at one of our off-site research locations in the Central Coast. The reading interventionist will join a dynamic, interdisciplinary team committed to improving literacy outcomes for these students.

In this role, the interventionist will provide targeted, data-driven reading instruction to participants in our research study. They will be responsible for delivering and tracking the progress of an intervention that incorporates both English and Spanish language components. The interventionist will gather data on student engagement, comprehension, interest, and outcomes to inform the study's broader objectives. Close collaboration with researchers, educators, and students is essential, with an emphasis on deepening our understanding of literacy development in at-risk populations.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $58,100 - $90,800 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The UCSF Dyslexia Center (https://dyslexia.ucsf.edu/) focuses on improving diagnosis, care, and interventions for children and adults with learning challenges and includes principal investigators across two different departments, Neurology and Psychiatry. Our multidisciplinary research team includes research-based neurologists, psychiatrists, pediatricians, neuropsychologists, and neuroscientists with expertise in neurodevelopment, molecular genetics, neuroimaging, computer science, psychology, and education. Additionally, The Center participates in a three-campus California Institute of Law Neuroscience and Education, an initiative intended to harness the intersections of education, law, and neuroscience to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline and to ensure that system-involved and at-risk youth receive holistic services to improve their literacy, health, and life outcomes.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Speech and Language Pathology or equivalent experience / training.
  • Minimum 3+ years of related experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students, school district administrators, school counselors, principals, teachers, and community contacts
  • Demonstrated cultural competency with respect to race, ethnicity, and socio-economic status.
  • Strong communications (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Preferred Bilingual Spanish Speaker
  • Knowledge of youth and adolescent development theory, including issues facing low-income, first generation urban youth.
