Position Highlights |
The Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) Department at the University of Arizona is seeking a qualified and highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to work with Dr. Kyle Hanquist.
The candidate will work on basic and applied research in the area of computational aerothermodyanics relevant to hypersonic flight environments. This will include the investigation of nonequilibrium gas and plasma dynamics impact on aero-optics, thermal management, and turbulence. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Conduct research and development in one or more of the following areas relating to the simulation of hypersonic flows:
* Nonequilibrium modeling * Electron transpiration cooling * Aero-optics * Fluid-thermal-structural interaction * Low-temperature plasmas * Optimization * Machine learning * Mesh generation * Other physics applicable to hypersonic flows - Foster collaborations within the Department, with other units across the University, and with team members at other institutes.
- Mentor graduate and undergraduate students involved in related research projects.
- Project liaison to industrial sponsors and external federal agencies.
- Present research at national and international conferences.
- Prepare manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
- Participate in grant writing, including generating preliminary data, submitting grant applications, and preparing progress reports.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Knowledge of and experience in the fields of aerodynamics, aerothermodynamics, and/or fluid dynamics.
- Strong and demonstrated interest in programming, preferably in the context of CFD or machine learning.
- Strong analysis skills, research, and technical writing skills.
- Ability to communicate professionally in a clear, concise manner orally and in writing.

Minimum Qualifications |
- PhD in Aerospace Engineering or a related field of study.
- Selected applicant must have PhD conferred upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience with numerical methods, and modeling and simulation.
