Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in healthcare, nursing, or other health-related field is required. Computer science and information technology applicants may be considered with documented health-related experience.
  • A minimum of two calendar years or the equivalent of experience in healthcare simulation
  • Excellent clinical and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in education, instructional technology, nursing or related field preferred. Prior post-secondary teaching, counseling, or advising experience is preferred.
  • Preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, student academic success coaching and evaluation and/or student mentoring.
  • Clinical expertise or education in multiple clinical areas is preferred, must have a strong medical/surgical background.
  • National certification(s) in healthcare simulation, such as CSHE (Certified Simulation Health Educator) or CHSOS (Certified Health Simulation Operations Specialist)

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
With approximately 560 enrolled students, the Department of Nursing prepares nurse leaders and providers to advance the nursing profession through education, scholarship and practice in service to the community. Programs include the pre-licensure BSN, the online RN to BSN, and the online MSN with a concentration in nursing education. All programs are fully accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education ( CCNE). The Department is in the process of developing a new DNP Family Nurse Practitioner program to begin in fall of 2026.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing Simulation Programs: The provision of simulated patient care across a variety of healthcare settings and specialty event types is foundational to clinical learning. Creating realistic healthcare simulation scenarios for training purposes for individuals across the lifespan that include both routine and high-risk, low-occurrence events.
  • Curriculum Design: Collaborating with academic and instructional teams to design and implement learning activities that leverage innovative learning tools and techniques.
  • Technology Integration: Identifying and integrating emerging technologies that enhance learning outcomes, such as virtual reality, augmented reality, or artificial intelligence in clinical nursing education.
  • Faculty and Staff Training: Providing guidance and training for faculty and staff to effectively use simulation tools and technology in their teaching.
  • Assessment and Improvement: Evaluating the effectiveness of learning programs and simulations, making data-driven decisions to continuously improve educational offerings.
  • Collaboration: Working closely with other departments, external partners, or industry experts to stay current with trends and best practices in simulation and innovative learning.
  • Contributing to Team Success: Engage actively with fellow staff members of the nursing Simulation Lab, sharing knowledge and expertise to promote student success and support the ongoing improvement of learning technologies.
  • In addition, the director is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, calibration, and repair of simulation equipment, ensuring all systems and technologies are fully functional and up to date. This includes coordinating routine inspections, troubleshooting technical issues, and managing relationships with vendors for repairs or upgrades to ensure seamless operation of simulation-based training programs.
