Job Description

The Department of Education Sciences and Professional Programs (ESPP) at the University of Missouri-St. Louis is dedicated to fostering academic excellence through diverse, research-driven, and practice-oriented programs. We prepare future professionals in education, psychology, counseling, and sport management to excel in their fields, ensuring they make meaningful contributions to their communities.

The Bachelor of Science in Sport Management is a standout program within ESPP, boasting strong ties to organizations such as St. Louis CITY SC, the newest MLS team, and industry partnerships with professional sports teams. Our students consistently rank in national competitions, and the program is a recognized leader in experiential learning, with opportunities for internships, service learning, and career networking.

We are seeking a collaborative colleague who is committed to student success, advancing knowledge in the field, and serving the St. Louis community and beyond. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong record of teaching and professional experience in sport management, with a focus on preparing students for the evolving sports industry. In addition to teaching and service, faculty are expected to actively participate in mentoring students, providing career guidance, and building relationships with industry partners to enhance student learning and internship opportunities. Experiential learning is a priority and focus of this program and faculty are expected to take a prominent role in established activities/events and create new opportunities for students.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in sport management, including but not limited to Introduction to Sport Management, Legal Issues in Sports, Sport Media & Technology, and Sport Ethics.
  • Mentor students by providing career guidance and support, helping them secure internships and job opportunities in the evolving sports industry.
  • Build and maintain relationships with industry partners to enhance student learning experiences, including creating new opportunities for internships and experiential learning.
  • Actively participate in departmental activities and initiatives, including partnerships with St. Louis CITY SC and other local sports organizations.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of the annual sports industry career fair and support students in national competitions and global experiential learning opportunities.
  • Embrace interdisciplinary approaches to teaching and service that align with the department's focus on experiential learning and community engagement.
Qualifications

Qualifications include:

  • A doctorate (PhD or Ed. D.) in Sport Management or a related field (ABDs will be considered with completion by start date)
  • Teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, and/or industry experience within the sport industry
  • Demonstrated experience of effective teaching and or service to student/industry success
  • Ability to support the success of students from diverse and non-traditional backgrounds and to contribute to the College's dedication and commitment to culturally responsive practices and to a welcoming and inclusive culture
