What You Can Expect

As an Environmental Director, you will oversee all environmental permitting and licensing requirements for renewable energy projects in the US and Canada spanning from the initial stages through to the start of construction. You will be responsible for analyzing the associated costs, schedule and resources needed to develop, permit, build and operate new renewable projects. As the Environmental Director, you will provide direct oversight of corporate and plant level compliance assurance management programs, policies, procedures, and processes in support of the company's environmental strategic objectives.




  • Lead and manage the environmental permitting, entitlement, and compliance assurance requirements for wind, solar, and battery storageprojects
  • Accountable for compliance with all applicable environmental and permitting requirements for projects during development, construction and operations
  • Responsible for scoping, contracting and managing consultants and contractors for permitting, environmental and regulatory services
  • Oversee the implementation of environmental surveys including, but not limited to: biological resources, vegetation resources, wetland and stream delineations, cultural resources, and Phase I Environmental Site Assessments
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining a Register of Environmental Legislation of all applicable environmental regulations and for providing strategic advice to senior management of how to mitigate associated risk
  • Review and track environmental key performance indicators (KPIs) and develop quarterly and annual reports analyzing trends and developing environmental objectives and targets to meet company environmental goals
  • Manage environmental risk assessments through the due diligence and audit process for existing facilities and potential new development project sites
  • Assess company environmental tools, processes and management systems and determine the level of organizational maturity. Develop a strategy that will lead to a self-directed culture
  • Provide environmental technical advice to senior legal counsel when required to accurately interpret regulatory rules for compliance
  • Present solution alternatives when project issues arise and advise the Company's executive management in clear, concise content and format to facilitate sound and timely decisions
  • Develop close working relations with federal, state, and local environmental protection agencies, influencing an outcome-based approach to legislative regulation interpretation and implementation
  • Create a service organization among all regional environmental advisors and managers to meet the permitting and licensing needs of Business Development in cost, schedule, and activity coordination
  • Share subject matter expertise across the international regions by leveraging the knowledge management platform to capitalize on environmental sustainability initiatives, strengthening the learning continuum
  • Evaluate and provide advice on environmental liabilities associated with purchase and lease of properties
  • Manage implementation of company environmental tools (e.g. Environmental Management System (EMS) program)
  • Manage development of environmental reporting documentation as requested by head office in Paris, France ("GROUP")
  • Collaborate among consultants, contractors, plant and corporate personnel to leverage their array of expertise when providing technical service in support of new projects and existing assets
  • Manage relationships between partners, suppliers, government bodies, contractors and communities regarding environmental matters
  • Develop and conduct training programs throughout multiple business units to inculcate a culture of environmental stewardship
  • Carry out other duties as assigned



What You'll Bring



  • Bachelor's degree in which you completed courses in Engineering or Environmental Science or related disciplines
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of operational and managerial experience in an environmental compliance and business development role within the energy sector
  • Experience working with US and Canadian Federal and State/Provincial, and local government laws and policies relating to aquatic and terrestrial environments and land use entitlements relevant to renewable energy development
  • Experience working on projects on federal or Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of the Endangered Species Act, Clean Water Act, National Historic Preservation Act, and the National Environmental Policy Act and general means for complying with those regulations.
  • Familiarity with environmental compliance strategies and processes
  • Exhibit mastery of root cause failure analysis tools and their application for noncompliance events
  • Possess superior verbal, written, interpersonal and public speaking communication skills when interacting with both internal and external stakeholders, to include media relations
  • Exhibit high levels of emotional intelligence as a team leader in the development and implementation of an environmental sustainability strategy
  • Proficient in database management, modeling and analyses in direct support of essential job functions



Additional Details



  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 30% of the time
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies



Compensation

Salary Range: $128,400 - $196,765 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
