Leidos is seeking a talented Systems Engineering Intern to join our diverse team and create unique solutions to complex problems. With offices across the United States engaging in the defense, space, cyber and commercial fields, Leidos provides responsive, cost-effective engineering, scientific and IT solutions.

Systems Engineers at Leidos are responsible for all aspects system-level technical planning, design, test, sustainment and engineering support. This position will perform engineering tasks in support of the U.S. Army Space Control mission area. Work is performed in a dynamic environment to develop, test, and support a variety of military SATCOM and commercial space system products. Candidate will work closely with PM, senior engineers, design teams, and supported customers to develop and sustain products throughout all phases of the systems engineering lifecycle. Candidate will be responsible for defining requirements, supporting system architecture definition & design development, validating and integrating hardware and software products, and sustaining fielded systems. Candidate will collaborate across multiple disciplines to include mechanical, electrical, software, modeling, simulation, safety, and reliability to identify applicable requirements and then ensure the requirements are met while avoiding requirements creep.

Candidate selected for this position will:

  • Help senior Systems Engineers develop and manage the technical baselines for SATCOM and Space Control systems.
  • Perform system requirements analysis, functional analysis, and requirements allocation. Help manage system requirements throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Contribute to system hardware, software, and network design processes.
  • Perform trade studies and develop analysis of alternatives. Provide design recommendations that consider technical requirements, cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Contribute to system test, verification, and validation efforts.
  • Analyze system design, performance, or sustainment issues and provide advice and recommendations to program staff and customers.
  • Support the development of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and other proposals.
  • Prepare technical documentation and reports.
  • Assist sustainment teams with the procurement of equipment and parts.

Basic Qualifications

Candidate must possess experience and skills in system-of-systems engineering, particularly those necessary to design, document, test, and support mobile SATCOM and Space Control systems. Required qualifications include:

  • In active pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • Experience developing and presenting trade-studies, engineering analyses, or technical reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and solve problems.
  • Must have a strong work ethic and the ability to work independently.
  • Must be reliable and demonstrate a high standard of personal integrity.
  • Attention to detail, along with the ability to develop clear and concise engineering reports using various tools and techniques to analyze information and present the results.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Good written and oral communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.
  • Candidate must be a resident of the Colorado Springs area.
  • Current US Citizenship and eligibility for a Secret clearance is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical Report development experience.
  • Project experience in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace, RF Communications, or Systems Engineering.
  • Knowledge and experience with MATLAB, SolidWorks, Visio, CMMI, Agile, Scrum, Unit testing and code coverage tools, Microsoft Visual Studio, Atlassian software suite, Modeling tools, and Design patterns.
  • Test experience with military systems.
  • Experience with Agile development processes.
  • DAWIA Engineering Level 1 certified or other equivalent.
  • DAWIA Test & Evaluation Level 1 certified or other equivalent.
  • Military space or SACOM experience.
  • Current Secret clearance is preferred.

Pay Range:Pay Range $46,800.00 - $84,600.00

Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
